Wow. Graham actually believes that?

I am spending today shaking my head.

I wish John McCain was alive.

It's amazing how callous they are and that "saying sorry" and kissing the ring is the most important transaction here

Kinda pathetic how all the GOP leaders/cabinet members write the same tweet about how POTUS and JD stood up and defended America today from being disrespected!

I watched that video and other than JD kinda losing control then trump going all mafia boss
I didn't glimpse the 'disrespect' Z did to all us citizens??

Even if he had “disrespected “ us who gives a shit. It’s easy to understand he is under a ton of strain and pressure. I mean really? That’s important to us? Respect??

Europe is now going to write us off. The newly elected German chancellor alluded to it the day after winning.  Macron and the British guy came over to  impress on Trump the importance of standing together for Ukraine. He just pissed on that…. They are going to get the message even if they would rather not.

It’s one thing to begin to wind down aid and work towards ending the conflict via a settlement but wholly different to tag team Ukraine with Russia and basically say “Give up, wave white flag and we will work out what happens.”

it is, once again, manufactured outrage.  IMO this was a planned ambush.  as has occurred many times in the past, trump made grandiose statements about how he's going to easily solve a complex problem, and once faced with the reality of that complexity he realizes that he in fact cannot solve it, so he needs an out (classic example: healthcare, during trump1.0: "who knew healthcare was so complicated??").  he recently realized that Ukraine and the ruzzia are too far apart, he cannot force peace, so he needs an excuse to ditch the whole effort.  "zelensky was disrespectful so we can't do business with him" is what the landed on.

usual narrative would be for trump to walk away, but this story has a twist: now that Ukraine has been dumped, trump feels free to sign an aluminium deal with putin.  see?  he's still a winner!  4D chess!  10 moves ahead!  ignore the man behind the curtain! etc.

The reality is that the first 40 minutes went well until Z said something about -and I paraphrase- how it wouldn’t be great for the US to have a strengthened Russia…like hinting we would pay a price for abandoning them…and then Trump flew off the rails ..again paraphrasing “We will be fine…it’s YOU who will be fucked…” and then toadie Vance entered with his “you should be grateful “ thing..being grateful is a big thing for him clearly as he keeps saying it..we discussed the “you should be grateful “ with the Ukrainian immigrant spat…and Europe should be grateful to us and on and on…my partner thinks he was abused as a kid and someone said to him “you should be grateful” cause it’s not normal to keep using that construct.

It seems weird that it could have been staged….maybe they talked beforehand about how they weren’t going to take any crap from Z (and that they wanted to cut bait from Ukraine) and Vance knows to follow Trump’s lead…unclear

In retrospect the Ukraine’s big error was agreeing to give up the large amount of nukes stationed there when the Soviet Union broke up. I don’t know the whole story but if they had all those nukes within range of Moscow nobody would be fucking with them. My understanding is they gave them up in exchange for security guarantees which have been breached.

Of course many Ukrainian governments since the fall of the Soviet Union have been pro Russia. In that case there were few issues. But things changed….

Europe is now going to write us off.

i think this is going to bite the US economy, and hence trump, a lot more than el presidente thinks it will.  all sorts of talk out there about countries no longer trusting the US to honor weapons contracts, so arms buyers are looking for alternatives.  that's billions in sales per year.  a US submarine was denied refueling in Norway because the private company won't sell to americans anymore (norwegian gov't eventually stepped in but it's a sign of things to come...).  trump believes he has a lot more leverage than he actually does.

Billionaires will survive global economic collapse far better than the middle class and the impoverished.

Europe and the US have been so close for so long that this new scenario is hard to fathom.

We have never been as popular around the world with people (as opposed to governments) as we like to think we are…..maybe it’s envy….maybe it’s that we are a little brash, a little loud….maybe it’s the fact we wrap ourselves up in the flag of freedom while often doing things that contradict this… so we are particularly vulnerable to a negative reaction towards us. It’s just waiting to happen.

There’s a lot of people around the world “enjoying” this and going “I told you.”

The Oval Office meeting with Z was Friday? I have never felt so low as an American as I did that night. On 9-11 I felt heartbroken but not ashamed.

so I thought both Mex and Can had caved and gave trump what he wanted (for them to kiss his ring and do something insignifcant)

“Tomorrow — tariffs 25% on Canada and 25% on Mexico. And that’ll start,” Trump told reporters in the Roosevelt Room. “They’re going to have to have a tariff.”
