he did say that thanks to mexico's and canada's "unprecedented concessions obtained by trump!" (aka what they were already going to do), he was pausing the tariffs for a month.  i seriously thought/hoped that the pause would be permanent: trump got so much blowback that he needed an out, so he announced a "pause" after their actions but in reality he was just walking away.  guess not.  but no worries, trump is a (stable) economic genius, right?  everyone agrees with him, right?

Dow opens down 500 points. Going to be interesting day at the casino. Obviously Trump is addressing Congress tonight.

smart money holds cash and stays on the sidelines

I'm more of an S&P guy for judging the market (DJ is just 30 companies)

1.18.21 SP closes at 3841
1.20.25 SP closes at 6101 !!!
58% in 4 years, thats an amazing return
In all of our lifetimes, we have not seen that kind of return
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/%5EGSPC/

Man those biden years really sucked in the stock market

SP is down 5% since he took office (only 43 days)
At this rate we'll be back to an SP when he left office by the end of the year

if anyone can explain the choices of the current administration other than with "trump is a russian asset", i'm all ears.  i can't come up with anything.

the fight dems need to go all in on is this SAFE act
allegedly to protect against voter fraud, but pretty much will disenfranchise tons of dem voters.

I find it hard to accept he is a Russian asset. I have read all the arguments.

I can accept he once was a Russian asset but as president? What is in for him? People say kompromat but no matter what they have on him is it so bad he would lose his support?

I can see him identifying with Putin as his ideal of a strong leader. I can see him wanting to work with Russia to advance what he sees as US goals.

But my partner tells me I am crazy.

I mean the US president is far more powerful than the Russian so why would he work FOR Putin? It doesn’t add up.

well the issue as I understand is Putin has lots of dirt on Trump as well as some major debt(although after the memecoin and DJT stock...can't imagine trump is having money issues)

so that would be through disinfo and election interference
I have heard very few with a R next to their name, be vocal that this Russia stuff sucks...rather they are like "why shouldn't we be friends with russia"

His base does not care and are somewhat giddy about dictators
plus putin is very white people first, so they love that too

Was doing a little sidefi research after and this line in an article on the stock market tanking sums it up pretty well

I think there’s a new normal of irrationality that is not going to be helpful to the U.S. economy.

Presidents Trump and Musk are already working hard to bring down the cost of stocks to a level where average Americans can afford them again. I imagine groceries will not be far behind.

the idiot football coach senator has some thoughts
Tuberville: Putin and Trump will decide future of Ukraine, not Zelensky

so much crazy shit in so little time...I bet friday is going to be bonkers again when we find out they decided to put the entire Social Security Trust fund into memecoins

David Sacks, Trump’s artificial intelligence and crypto czar, teased “more to come” at the upcoming White House Crypto Summit on Friday.

I wonder if Trump is looking for a pretext to invade Canada?

If he really imposed another 25% tariff increase on Canada - and I can’t believe he is going to even though he said he would- it would be devastating for Canada and very damaging for us.

But if we attacked Canada who exactly would help them? Do they have much of a military?

The US would immediately become a pariah state like Russia and Iran.

Of course, war has always dovetailed nicely with restrictions on civil liberties etc
