The National Guard is now tasked with spreading mulch at DC landmarks because <checks note> they laid off many Park Service employees.

Trump, who said he was “98% involved” in picking the Kenddy center’s next slate of honorees, announced that the awards would be given to singer and songwriter George Strait; actors Michael Crawford and Sylvester Stallone; singer Gloria Gaynor; and the rock band KISS.
thought it was odd Gloria Gaynor was picked....well

so do we think the woke/broke is a marketing strategy, where the calculus is that can we win our customers loyalties if we give in to their demands/outrage
risky bet, but potentially big payoff

Hard to say anyone who actually goes to cracker barrel even knew the controversy happened, yet they got lots of news coverage and I'm sure now the right wing media is patting them selves on their backs for 'sticking it to the libs'

I feel punch drunk from the barrage of bad and ridiculous news regarding Trump and our country these days. I no longer really even know how to react adequately. It’s just nonstop nonsense day after day hour after hour. Nothing surprises me anymore. Trump could announce we are moving all Baltimore residents to Greenland in 2026 and I would be like “Sure, why not…it’s not any crazier than cutting funding for cancer, imposing a huge tariff on India for no reason I can fathom, painting the border wall black, taking over management of a train station in DC” etc ad nauseum

I mean it kind of is beginning to remind me of that scene in the Woody Allen film Bananas where the rebel leader announces his crazy policies after taking power and becoming a dictator @Today I announce all citizens will wear their underwear on the outside!”

interesting tactic from some of the GOP could pull to get bills to a vote, since it's so close already only a few GOP would be needed to surpass Speaker Johnson to get to the floor

The tool these lawmakers are planning to use — the discharge petition

https://www.axios.com/2025/08/14/mike-johnson-jeffrey-epstein-stock-trading

Who knows if anything will happen, but there are are a caucus of GOP that are really frustrated that the things they came to congress for are not even getting a vote

This is one of those Midwest states

Currently 6 republicans and 2 democrats in house. They are going to redraw map to get one more…can they redraw it to get all 8 given St Louis demographic ?
