time to fess up
me and my buddy won tickets to this show and about 25 other concerts that summer
whoa, more deets please
Yeah, mostly Cap Centre and MPP shows. It got ridiculous at some point. We just called DC 101 and won. I *think* you were supposed to be limited to one win per month, but we kept winning and they kept giving us tickets.
I had a year where I probably won radio station giveaways 18+ times. It was insane. They knew me by sight when I showed up to pick up my winnings.
as far as i can remember, i have won tickets to 2 shows:
- waaaaaay back in the day, like 1991'ish, i won a draw at the local guitar store (Steve's Music) for a made-in-mexico Stratocaster and a pair of second-row tix for Aerosmith. the night before the show, i played with my friend's band in a bar (arguably the peak of my on-stage career, using said Strat) then partied all night like the rock star i was inside my head, so i was wasted the next day and ended up selling the tickets outside the venue for face. i gave up the opportunity to experience "love in an elevator" live in exchange for a pizza, a 6-pack and putting some gas in my girlfriend's car.
- i won tickets to see NIN at the Lube in 2006, by being caller number X on some radio station (WJFK?). the tickets were in the 200's, and at that point i was a full-fledge seat snob and scoffed at the quality of those seats. i was really happy i went anyways as trent & co had an amazing light show that couldn't be appreciated from up close (including a fence they dropped between the band and the crowd that had cool illumination/animation). almost made me reevaluate my seat snobbishness. almost. (TAN: that show was the first one i took the missus to, one of our first dates. i had just come off a painful breakup that she knew i was still very raw about. on the drive out to bristow we got to talking about NIN, which she knew nothing about. i told her about the nihilism and pain of trent's lyrics. she asked me how long i'd been into the band, and i responded "since the downward spiral". she was quiet for a few moments, then tentatively offered "it's ok if you want to talk about her..." - she thought "the downward spiral" was the aftermath of my recent breakup
