The Weekend Quiz

Too late for a Friday quiz so something for the weekend...

Any guesses on where this band is from?  What their sound is?

They're a Latvian Pixies-cover band?

I'm going to guess that they play alternative rap-metal and are from Phoenix.

That's COWBOYNICA!

They are the pioneers of the new techno-country movement that has it's roots in Shagnastie TN.

Forming a fusion of synth-pop rythms with nationalistic and self-pitying lyrics, they have bridged the gap between country and dance. No longer will closet country fans have to hide under the umbrella of "alt-country", then can now also hide under the "techno-country" shelter when out clubbing with their rave-going friends.

They are Driveblind from Aberdeen Scotland and are signed to Interscope/A&M records in the US and have an EP of material on Fat Hippy Records in the UK.

I'd recently picked up this 2004 Interscope sampler which had a track of theirs on it, which at first listen had the feel of a generic college rock band.  Since I was checking out other bands on the Interscope website I decided to see what Driveblind was all about beyond the one sampler track. That picture portrayed them as band trying to break into the college crowd.

Seeing the website linked had little info beyond some pictures and a forum, a quick google search revealed that the band was in fact from Scotland and not some doodle band.  This made me even more curious...  Their  UK website has a tad more info along with reviews comparing them to the Who.  Other websites mention Small Faces, The Rolling Stones, the next Travis, etc.

I've listened a couple more times to the track and it's really grown on me.  It's not as disponsable as first throught.  Kinda got the Charlantans organ driven groove going on.  Anyways, the track "The Fool Rides Again", has gone into heavy rotation and I'll be spinning it in the future.

Just remember when the band gets Franz Ferdinand hype and attention that I mention them first and we've been discussion them for months in advance

I definately had them pegged as doodles...the one on the left at the front just looks like he's trying too hard to look British. Besides, Brit bands normally like the camera angle to be from below with the band looking down at the lense.
