iTunes question...
« on: August 17, 2006, 02:44:00 pm »
I wanted to create a playlist that would automatically grab 50 randomly-selected five-star songs that I could upload to my iPod for jogging.  My hopes were that, by selecting the "select by random" and "live updating" option that each time I opened the playlist, it would have a different set of songs.  No dice.

Is there an easy way to do something like this?

Why not just load a bigger set of songs? Surely your iPod can hold more than 50?

Well, it's less of a question of number of songs than it is of just the ability to do what I'm trying to get iTunes to do.

It's not a huge issue; I was just curious if there was some sort of "auto refresh" feature on playlists.

Keep the settings as you have them. Open the playlist. Select all of the songs (all highlighted). Hit delete. The old list should disappear and a completely new one should appear within a second or two.

"Live updating" just means that if you delete anything from the list and the remaining list no longer fits the limit criteria (# of songs, MB, etc.) then the app will add appropriate songs until the limit criteria are met.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I didn't realize you could delete songs from a Smart Playlist.  I was thinking that by using the random select and live updating, it would randomly grab songs each time.  This little tidbit will be a big help.
