Tickets.com Shipping Charges
« on: May 26, 2004, 04:30:00 pm »
Does anyone else think this is a little shady?  I mean, you pay $3.25 (in addition to the service charges) whether you have the tickets mailed to your or held at will call?  Not that Tickets.com isn't heads above Ticketmaster, but christ, even  they add no additional charge if you leave the tickets at will call.  I've been having them mailed just so Tickets.com isn't getting my cash for free.

When I bought Wilco and Ween tickets, I was charged $3.25  each to have the tickets mailed to me.  Both sets of tickets just arrived in one envelope.  Does it really cost them $3.25 to put each order in an envelope, even if it's the same freakin envelope as another order?  And if so, what does the other service charge pay for?  Am I being irrational here?

That's just how these people get rich.  I know it's evil but they only charge what people are willing to spend.

Yeah - that's annoying. $3.25 for the convenience of standing in line at Will Call.  Nice.  I understand why they do the 2-in-one-envelope thing, but it still makes me feel like I got ripped off.  I know I technically got what I paid for (they delivered both sets of tickets), but I come away feeling like I paid twice and they delivered once.

but we're willing to pay for it because we have no other choice but to buy tickets from them, or not buy tickets at all.  they know this

You're exactly right.  But they don't care about that.

Uh-oh, here we go again.

These ticket service fee threads are even more exciting than the sports threads. Woo hoo!

me too, but i do find it amusing about them sending two ticket orders in the same envelope.  you'd think that as an olive branch to the customer they could come up with a shipping charge for multiple orders at the same time.

Is it any worse than the $1 charge if you pick it up at the box office?

I still think that one is just as funny if, oddly, not more.

Why? You can't get anything for a buck these days.

I'm sure you were just making a joke, but I would advertise the show for $36 instead of $35 and then charge $36 when I show up ot buy a ticket.  I can't think of one place where I can't get the ticket for the advertised price.

Places without box offices like DAR Constitution Hall.  Though, like 9:30 Club, day of the show you can get tix at advertised price but then you gamble on a sellout.

my personal favourite is the places that charge for parking as part of the ticket price.

did i tell them i was going to be driving?  and why should everyone in my car pay for parking?

    fishy fishy

i went to merriweather to see roxy music a couple summers back, when it was a clear crap venue, and bought my ticket the night of the show hoping to save a buck or two.  and much to my suprise i still got clobbered with service charges even at the box office.  of course this standard operating procedure for clear channel sheds.  they have to pay down that debt somehow.
