Grateful Dead to offer entire catalog on iTMS
March 19 - 11:38 EST   The Grateful Dead are finalizing a deal with Apple to make every live note they've ever recorded available for download from the iTunes Music Store (iTMS). "Everything, sooner or later, will end up being released on the Web," guitarist Bob Weir says. "What we wanna do is digitize our entire catalog, our entire collection of tapes and make that stuff available. I think iTunes is up to that." The band has recorded all of its live shows since the late 1960s. Weir says the Dead's jams are a bargain. "At 99 cents a tune, it's a pretty decent price, because most of our tunes are pretty long."  [ Email this story ]

Yeah - I read about this the other day.  Some people are predicting it's the end of The Dead allowing the free trading of soundboards.  That would suck.
Still, I'd be willing to pay for shows I saw, if they digitize the entire vault.

The ones with a free song are like gold dust, the deliberation that goes into each purchase is excruciating.

I prefer coke to anything. But I have about a can a year. Diet Pepsi is the best substitute. I hate Regular Pepsi and Diet coke is nasty. I prefer Safeway brannd diet.

As for Kazzaa, arent you worried that you might end up in the next itunes add?

Back on topic.

Is this a ploy to get Hippies to buy computers because by my estimation hippies don't have 99 cents to but a digial song let alone the money to buy a computer or an iPod?

The occasional free iTune is not worth having to drink Pepsi.

Your average Deadhead is probably about 40 and makes above the median income.  Look at the ticket prices for Ratdog and Phil Lesh and Friends; and the huge number of "Dick's Picks" CDs sold @ $20-$35 each.
