my next mix CD
« on: October 19, 2003, 11:20:00 pm »
So I'm putting together a new mix CD.  It's going to be called "Making Hey Now" and it will focus on songs making prodigious use of the words "Hey Now."   There'll be "Hey now now," by Swirl 360, "This Corrosion" (aka "Hey now, hey now now") by Sisters of Mercy, and "Hey Now," by Oasis, and "Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)" by Cyndi Lauper, and of course "Don't Dream It's Over" (Hey now, hey now...) by Crowded House.   And that's just the beginning. It's going to be great!!!

It's called an "Earworm"

Researcher finds people worldwide share this: songs that get stuck in your head

By Rachel Kipp, Associated Press, 10/19/2003

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Unexpected and insidious, the earworm slinks its way into the brain and refuses to leave. Symptoms vary, although high levels of annoyance and frustration are common. There are numerous potential treatments, but no cure.

"Earworm" is the term coined by University of Cincinnati marketing professor James Kellaris for the usually unwelcome songs that get stuck in people's heads. Since beginning his research in 2000, Kellaris has heard from people all over the world requesting help, sharing anecdotes and offering solutions.

Among the songs respondents picked as most likely to become stuck were: "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," the Chili's restaurant "baby back ribs" jingle and "Who Let the Dogs Out."

what about that grateful dead song that goes "Hey now hey now Aiko aiko all day" or something like that?  All the dead cover bands do it.

I'd rather be dead than put a Dead song on a mix cd!   Fortunately that Aiko Aiko song is an old-time creole tune, I think, the Dead didn't write it.

thanks all for all your suggestions  :)
