I've heard and read mixed reviews but haven't heard it yet. Any comments as to the worthiness? He's like the new Devandra right? Out of the woods of Wisconsin I believe. Is it as cool as Sparklehorse? Clue me in, what would you compare it to?

it's sad bastard music, not as quirky as devendra, not as dreamy as sparklehorse. i guess he gets compared to iron & wine a lot because of the way the record is produced and the guy's kinda breath-y voice. i really dig the way he double-tracked some of the vocals.

If you do go, don't miss the opener, Bowerbirds.

I do like Bon Iver, but there's a lot more interesting people out there, like AA Bondy who he's touring with soon.

Nick Schillace isn't to be missed either.

yeah, it's nice to see nick schillace playing on the black cat stage. i've booked him three times -- twice at my house and once at the velvet lounge -- and he has played for a total of maybe 30 people in dc. nick is  an absolutely monster fingerpicker, a real fahey scholar, with an incredible sense of melody and style. i'll be at the show to catch his set, though i'm worried people will be obnoxious and chat like they did through jack rose's set when he opened for mogwai at the 9:30.

Or Damon and Naomi's set when they opened for Boris.

 That was really sad.
