Rootkits

I finally got stuck with one of those Sony buggy CD's, (The Stranglers).  I know I shouldn't rip it in my windows based computer.  But is it safe to rip it into my PD Hercules Jukebox stand -alone shelf unit?

 I sometimes connect this shelf unit to the computer to update the unit's software jukebox program.

yer safe.  the Hercules doesn't run WinXP, so it has no registry to f*ck up.  
 
 your computer sees the herc as an external drive.  if you wanna be supa-paranoid, disconnect the 'puter from the herc before rippin'.

I wouldn't do that while ripping, but are you CERTAIN that a USB connecttion to the device to update it's playlist (after ripping) won't do any damage?  My computer also has a program installed in order too connect to the PD Jukebox.  Sorry if I sound lame, but I'm no techie...that's my wife's job.

Which Stranglers CD is it?  Because I don't see one of their titles on the list of CDs with the XCP or MediaMax software.  Is it an import per chance?

EMI imports would probably be protected.
 
 Anyway, disable auto-start and keep it disabled. Auto-start is now a security flaw and it behooves anyone running Windows to disable it.

Yes, import.  I knew the price was too good to be worth it.  It plays okay on my car's CD player.

Copy Control is a different beast it doesn't  actually install software on anything, merely tries to fool Windoze computers.  Since this is a non windows device you will be fine.
