O.M.D reform
« on: May 05, 2005, 08:50:00 pm »
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark are to reform, there has been alot of talk lately about andy and paul getting back together and touring, that is moving ever closer with the news that andy, paul and mal will be performing on a german tv show, martin could not make it so stuart kershaw (from 90s o.m.d, sugar tax, liberator, universal) will be filling in.
first the wendy james comeback (she still looks great) now this, what next a new pete wylie cd.
oh yeah puressence hopefully will have a new cd out this year, they are recording new tracks and talking to some big record companies.

i'm cool with this as long as they stick to material up to and including "dazzle ships."

Amen brother. "Dazzle Ships" was an amazing record and their last true great one. It's so hard to believe a band that was once so artistically inclined became so completely preoccupied with cheese pop. Oh well...

I don't know...I kind of like "Junk Culture".  Yeah, it's cheesy dance-pop - but it's good cheesy dance-pop.

yeah they did the "cheese pop" singles better than most... at least they didn't go the Modern English route where they went from one hit single to unlistenable art wank...

I always thinks it's interesting how some people just "miss" certain bands.  I, for example, am completely unfamiliar with O.M.D.'s catalogue outside of the hits and videos...  Now, why?  I have no idea.  I listened to that genre back in the day, probably have a lot of albums from similar bands, etc.  I just missed 'em.  Kinda like Wilco or Weezer today...

OMD just reissued their first 3 albums in remastered editions. I highly recommend "Architecture in Morality", which is their third and arguably their strongest (along with the experimental "Dazzle Ships")...
