Most divisive bands...
« on: March 31, 2004, 01:43:00 pm »
Okay, there are some obvious ones here on this board: Wilco, Billy Bragg and recently the loved/hated Death Cab for Cutie or Sleater-Kinney.  Out in the real world, I'd say the Grateful Dead is #1.

These are the bands you either love or hate.  It's just one or the other, and the mere mention of the band can provoke heated 'discussions' even among old friends.

List others, and let's see what happens.    ;)

Strokes, White Stripes, Hives, and that pesky word "Punk".

I think you wanted the word divisive (not controversial):

Radiohead fans who like anything after Ok computer

I love Punk, but not the new stuff, I love the old school punk bands, like Green day.

Badly Drawn Boy.
I don't think other selection will cause controversy here - amongst my friends: Dave Matthews (Band).

Well, I feel the Dead, whether you love or hate them, are an institution, and should be respected for that. However, Phish, for example, is the Devil! You can't not have an opinion on them. And in my case, you can't possibly hate them anymore than you already do.

Aha -- I kind of lump Dave Matthews in with the Dead.  But yeah, I can see it.

There was quite a stir here when he came to town last time...maybe it was more about his on-stage presence though.
