Ben Harper post-roll call
« on: September 11, 2006, 12:16:00 pm »
Did anyone see this show last night?

I thought it was brilliant, wonderful and almost inspiring.  What a great musician, songwriter he is.  His band is very talented as well.
Damian Marley, while not as talented as Harper, is a great performer and he blows any other Marley, not named Bob, away.

I am sure this thread will be dominated by naysayers of both him AND Damian Marley, but i just dont see how.  You either love this guy, or you've never given him a chance.

sounds like it was a good show, might have to check out his next concert.  hats off to (ben) harper!

actually, i'd expect the naysayers to go off on how supposedly over-rated bob marley is (i certainly don't subscribe to this opinion, just have seen it come up on other forums   :)   )

yeah, definitely a good show.  Ben has a good mix of funk, rock and reggae, slow songs, songs that jam out a bit, rock songs.  its definitely not dull and monotonous.   and the marleys have all that Bob material to cover when their show gets tiresome.

ben brought them all on stage for a rendition of "get up stand up"  (i think).

Great show (not up there with the 9:30 show last year).

It felt like the show didn't really get going for good until "Excuse Me Mr."

I can't even imagine how hard that flag waving job really is, no matter how ridiculous it seemed

There was a great family from VA Beach in the row in front of us.  Those parents really seemed to get "it."  They understood how to take their little children to a show, keep them under control and show them the great things there and keeping the not so great elements at a distance.  Anyway, congrats to them.

His early stuff was good, but then he started making fratboy music.  :)

He's referring to Damien Marley who did the same flag waving when he opened for U2 last time.

Damien Marley = shite, I'm sorry.

I was referring to the guy who constantly waved the Jamaican flag for Marley's entire one hour set.  It looked utterly ridiculous, yet I understand how tiring it must be to keep a flag waving for a full hour.

My friend compared the guy's role on stage to the dancing guy at a Bosstones show.
