The Strokes at Nation???
« on: February 05, 2004, 04:36:00 pm »
What in the sam hell is going on here?  I want to see them play at 930.  I'm still pissed I missed their last show there.  What happened here?  Are the evil Clear Channel toads behind this gross error?  I've never been to Nation and I would like to keep it that way.  But I'll be there March 9.  Bummer...

And yes I know everyone on this board thinks they are overrated, over hyped, etc.

they're ok but they suck live.  not worth going to see at a sucky venue.  they rarely even move around.  at least, this is the times I have seen them, which was a while back.  maybe they've changed

Vic Chesnutt barely moves around, and he's a good performer.

The Strokes put on a kick ass show a few years back when they opened up for Doves at the 9:30 Club.  This was well before they had their debut album out and nobody knew who they were.  Julian and co. were hanging out with everybody in the crowd as soon as they got off stage.  Does anybody else remember that show?  Doves were great too btw...

The last 2 times I saw them, they were at Constitution Hall and UMBC.  Worst venues ever.  Worst audience ever. Too bad, I think theyre a great band, so I will be there at Nation.  Im super bummed I didnt see them back in the day when they played the black cat and 930. bummer.

I was there. Pretty empty show, if I'm remembering correctly. I had no idea who they were at the time. After they had finished, I remember talking with my friends about how crap they were, and then turned around to find Julian Casablanca (or whatever) standing right behind us. Glaring. It was uncomfortable. Doves were wonderful, of course.

A friend and I went to go see an old high school music teacher of ours play over at Blues Alley.  The band was pretty bad.  I mean, the guy's a good sax player and all but it was an OFF night.  So my friend and I talked about how bad the show was.  Turns out my music teacher's wife was sitting right behind us.

Are BRMC and the Rapture opening, or is that just a rumor?

There has been references to Different Strokes ever since they've become popular.

I went to that show for the Doves, and was very impressed by the then virtually unknown Strokes' performance. So impressed in fact, that I purchased the 3 song Modern Age EP. When I listened to it I realized that it was utter shite. After that, my regard for them swiftly fell off. In fact, I'm quite upset about the Sounds' cancellation at 930, but I refuse to buy a ticket to see them with the Strokes, just on general principle.

I will, however, be at Blue Room on Sunday, so bring on the House Of Love!
