Neon Bible??
« on: March 29, 2007, 11:15:00 am »
SO am I missing something here?? I have listened to it twice now and still at the conclusion that it sucks, especially compared to Furneral. Whats the deal?? and man they need to cut back a bit on the reverb, makes it a muddled mess.

I feel the same way.  I think there are a few listenable songs on there, but the production doesn't do much for me.

I think it's brilliant, and it grabbed me pretty much straight off (loved that piano riff on Black Mirror, and just built from there). It took me a long time to get into Funeral -- and in fact, I actively disliked it for awhile.

I've found that some of my older friends (i.e. older than 35) really like it since the band sounds somewhat like an updated, artsy-fartsier Springsteen on this record.

I think maybe one of the reasons I don't like it as much is because it sounds like Springsteen.  I have tried very hard over the years to like him, but I don't.

This is also the exact reason one of my friends loves this album.

I was just thinking the same thing this morning!

I got an advance copy of this, listened to it a few times and thought it was great.....then I didn't listen for a while and just now listened to Neon Bible and Funeral back to back - there are a few good songs on NB but it pales in comparison to Funeral

More like John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

You're both wrong - They sound like Meat Loaf

Which reminds me, I was annoying my wife to no end by loudly singing a Meatloaf song as we walked to our car yesterday, and when we get in the car and turn the ignition, on pops a radio commercial for Meatloaf at DAR, featuring him singing that very song. Maybe the part about me singing a Meatloaf song belongs in the confession thread.

I'm having trouble getting into it...I don't think its bad, but it just hasn't caught my attention like Funeral did.

But it all might change once I get my iPod back and I have a chance to listen to it with headphones all the way through.  It broke right when this came out, and my computer speakers just don't give anything justice.

I think Arcade Fire's "Neon Bible" is one of the most brilliant follow ups to date. It has a beautiful, slightly darker feeling to it than funeral had. I also scored an advanced copy of it about a month before it's release. Listened to it once, did not touch it for a week. Thought it was nothing compared to Funeral. Started to get into it again, and thus has been hooked since. I listen to it about everyday. Overall great album. Best of the year so far.

I encourage people who did not care for it the first few times, to listen to it once more. Make sure you make it all the way through to the new version of "No Cars Go" which may be the best recorded Arcade Fire song to date.

I wished I could say something that would persude you to dig it but it's hard to be objective.  As I said in the other AF tread, they can do no wrong in my mind.

That is what pissed me off the most, i thought the original version was much better, i have a real problem with the production of this new album.
