Here's my follow-up...
Was planning on dusting off the "I'm Out" Senfield chestnut two weeks ago for those of you who couldn't join with me to go without a Computer for a Saturday after Kosmette dared me.
I was going to announcing my participation in this social experiment and also to encourage others to go computer less as well for a day. But decided against as it would be akin to the hall monitor sneaking off to the library to read Mad magazine. Who knows what would have happened with all those freed from detention hanging out with the mod away.
So here is what I was able on do on Shutdown Day...
I didn't watch digital cable, drive the car, listen to CDs, turned off the mobile phone.
Instead listened to NPR, worked on the Suduku in the paper, took a much needed nap, walked to the New Deal Cafe, a local eatery, run as a co-op for a mid afternoon snack, in the evening walked with Kosmette to the local movie theatre to see Ms. Potter.
Even Kosmette only used a computer for work purposes. Neither of used an ATM
I'm considering turning this into a regular practice called Analog Weekends.
In the future I may allow myself to check email via the phone, but with plenty of records and video tapes on hand there is lots of non digitized sources of entertainment.
