Perhaps it was the bangs-over-the-eye thing but Thurston looked royally messed up (pupils all willy-nilly in their sockets).  The most humorous part was when Catherine Velveeta-Jones went over to shake hands with a smirking Kim Gordon afterwards. I would have loved to have known what she was thinking at that moment.

But while Gomez sat around in their student digs getting high and wanking blues licks on each othersâ?? faces for 6 minutes at a time, The Coral are joyously caught up in their love of the gonzo three-minute pop song, aware that hooks and shouting and unexpected sudden turns and dashes down mad alleys are both more instantaneous and more satisfying than the self-satisfied muso wank-wank that comes so easily to other guitar-toting retro-heads.

That might be a good criticism of the new Gomez, but it is wrong about the old Gommez, they did mine a series of different styles and were considered eclectic in their influences. Go and read some review of their first two albums. I have never seen Gomez play a guitar by throwing a tennis ball at it.
