What? The Hives cool no longer??
« on: June 15, 2004, 11:44:00 am »
I'm just saying, the tix have been on sale (seems like a while now) and the show still isn't sold out. Should i believe that those swedes have lost some of their luster? I recall seeing them at 9:30 2 years before and it sold out pretty quick. Current musical tastes don't dictate who i see or don't see (i will be there   ;)  )  i'm just curious, is all.

Oops, I've forgotten to get a ticket.  Good to know they're still available.

I think they mean The Vines, I always get them confused since I don't know one song either group sings.

I'm such an idiot    . They were never at 9:30... it was the Black Cat. Sorry about that... having another senior moment here.

 the question still stands.

either they're a bunch of losers and everybody hates them, or people are slow to buy tickets.

 hmm.

Yeah, they sold out the Black Cat, but consider the difference in venue capacity. They may have sold enough 7/20 tickets so far to sell out the BC this time as well, but not the 9:30.

Plus, it doesn't help that the new album won't be out until 7/20.

well it doesn't help it took so long to record a new album... unless your weezer most bandwagon fans have short memories.  just how hard was it to write and record a collection of two and half minutes songs.

The length of time it took to record the new album isn't all their fault. There were record labels haggling over who "owned" the band and who controlled distribution.

I fear that the Hives 15 minutes are up. [I did hear good things about their SXSW show though]

While I enjoyed the Black Cat show tremendously - I doubt anything they ever do will rise to that level of buzz & energy again.

I remember being surprised that they pretty much went on hiatus right after the Black Cat show (last in the states, I believe) - It was like they retired right at the peak of their popularity. Leave them wanting more I guess. Hope it doesn't backfire on them.

You can stream a video of one of their new songs from rollingstone.com.  The guitar on the song reminded me of TSOOL a little bit.

I think it's wierd that some hired gun writes all their songs for them.  It kills it for me a little.  I saw the Cat show last year.  I thought the band sounded good but the whole "We are the Hives and aren't we so wonderful" schtick got a little old.

I read in NME quite some time ago that Randy Fitzsimmons, the guy that supposedly got them together and writes their songs, is just an registered pseudonym of guitarist Nicholaus Arson.
