Andy Rourke of The Smiths @ R&R Hotel
« on: September 13, 2006, 01:33:00 pm »
I'm opening from 9:00-10:30, followed by Stereo Faith, then Andy. I'd say come early for me, but really you'll want to come early for the free entry ($10 after 10pm), free booze (Sparks), and free shit from Kill Rock Stars and Merge records.  First come first serve on the loot, just come say hi to me in the DJ booth, I have some CD's, promo posters, stickers, etc.  Also, I designed the flyer, what do you think?

Sorry, I have a few questions about this place, because I'm debating whether to go stalk Marky Ramone on Saturday.  Okay.

 1) How good/bad is the area, on a scale of 1-9:30 club?
 2) How do they have a pool...isn't it not a real hotel?

I don't think it's too bad, IF you stay on H St. Once you're off that, it gets a bit sketchy. I would say it's comparable to the 9:30/U St area from a few years ago.

I think I saw what you are referring to somewhere, but I didn't really read it. I'm guessing they probably meant "billiards."

So do y'all think this is going to be just insanely crowded?  I have no idea how big the RnR is, or the draw of Rourke.  I'm assuming it'll bring in a lot of folks, but I've certainly been wrong before.

Yes, it's getting better with time, Fri and Sat are good cause you have lot's of people walking around going to Red & Black, Palace of Wonders, and R&R Hotel.  But really no worse than DC9 area.  There is a pool table, no pool  :)   If you see the crazy huge scary looking guy with a shaved head an pony tail he's actually really nice and will walk you to your car.

Since it is a new place it's hard to tell, but we've been advertising Fri and Sat a lot so I think this will be the weekend people finally venture out to check out the club.  And once they do they'll want to come back, it really is a nice place, perfect mix of dive and class, friendly staff, great sound/light system, 18+, and good DJ's ;-)

Last week for The Presets/Will Eastman's new party it was not insanely crowded, a good crowd, but def not over-crowded.  It's a pretty big place with two floors and lots of different areas so even at capacity it doesn't feel cramped.

It's not surprising that that person seems to be dancing with himself.

i have a question! never been there ever. I would love to go checkout andy rourke. I am a college student coming from University of Maryland, which translates to I use the metro. Where is the nearest metro to this place? and how far of a walk is it?

There is a shuttle that runs from the Union Station metro station to H Street which was discussed in this  thread
