for the PDXers -show tonight - see below:

Peter Holmstrom from the Dandy Warhols is in a new band called the Sun the Sea. Says Holmstrom, "Thor Lindsay introduced Daniel Sparks to me when A Man Called Sun was on T/K Records and after they broke up I talked Daniel into coming over and helping me out with some song ideas. Those soon went out the window, when what we started writing together was a lot better. Then it was just a matter of finding a rhythm section." Holmstrom, who describes the band as, "beautiful, noisy music," continues, saying, "I should be around a lot now that the Warhols are going into recording mode. Everyone else doesn't leave town as much as me, but we are all in other bands." The Sun the Sea plays Berbati's on Wednesday, September 20, with Serena Maneesh, Wovenhand, and the Evangelicals.

I love the Dandy Warhols, I really do, but I hope the above doesn't mean mindless noodle-rock-jams of the sort they occasionally descend into during their live shows...

Im rather curious to what the new band sounds like. Wouldnt be surprised if there were those jams somewhere in it, but i could be very surprised. I should just check the DW board. Im sure someone went last night.

Ok -  here we go. Posted by user bedhead on who the band closely resembles:
Well, ok. If you put OK Computer era Radiohead, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's first album, Jesus and Mary Chain's First Four albums and a dash of Gang of Four in, you'd come up with the best band ever, right? Those were the bands I was thinking of. Grandiose, no? They did only play a handful of songs, so it's hard to say what they sound like. I really like it. I went with my girlfriend and some friends. The consensus was that the first song they played (which I think was like six minutes +) was kind of Franz Ferdinand-y/Gang of Four. The rest of the music was kind of like Radiohead being covered by BRMC with Fran Healy or Thom Yorke singing over it. Maybe Sean could give a better description.
