Metro to venues?
« on: January 10, 2008, 04:37:00 pm »
Is it possible to metro to 9:30 club, Black Cat, or Rock and Roll Hotel?  And if i were by myself is the walk safe enough to do?  I know U street is near 9:30 club, but i dont know exactly how close or how the walk is at night since i always drive and park

You may get slammed by some people for asking that, so be prepared.

But yes, you can walk to both 930 and Black Cat from the U Street stop.  It's about a mile in opposite directions from that stop.

Take the 10th St. exit if going to 930 and the 14th Street exit if going to Black Cat.

Make sure your show ends while Metro is still running.  Generally when going it alone, it's a safe neighborhood if you stay on U Street and just turn on V St/9th St/14th Street depending which place you are going to.

If you are traveling with a partner or a herd, then all should be fine regardless.

RNR, I've never been to, but I know the closest stop is on the Red Line.

their ride guide is pretty great. i've never had an issue metroing to 9:30 or black cat, but stuff happens.

R&R hotel isn't metroable, but there are busses.

the website will help you figure out how to get there.

It's certainly not a mile from the Metro's 10 St. exit to the 9:30 Club. It's like two blocks at most.

The walk to the Black Cat from the Metro is much longer, like 5 or 6 blocks, but it only takes about 10 minutes.

Both walks are safe by DC standards.

Rock 'n' Roll Hotel is not Metro-friendly. I'd recommend taking a cab to and from the nearest Metro station.

If you're a large black man or look like Thatguy, you'll probably be just fine.

The closest Metro to the Rock & Roll Hotel is Union Station. You have to call a cab or catch the X2 bus to Minnesota Avenue Station to get there.

You'd probably have a bit more trouble if you were a tall, leggy blonde minding your own business.

not to get into semantics, but there's usually about 80 cabs waiting outside of union station at all times of day/night, i doubt a phone call would be necessary

True, but you'll probably need to call one to get back to Union Station after the show, no?

In October, I (very drunkenly) walked from the RNR Hotel to practically Union Station... walking completely down H Street at about midnight.

I tried to catch a cab during the walk, but couldn't find any. Needless to say - I was fine and nothing happened. I just got a lecture from  my boyfriend.
nothx
