Fixtunes

Anyone use this program? I assume it is rather compatible with itunes. Not free, but looks a lot easier than some of the free programs out there, and more comprehensive.

Doesn't iTunes already do all of this? Seriously, I'm asking. I feel like it does for me (on a Mac, so maybe it's not the same on a PC).

iTunes does have those features, and with the new version 7, it's easier for it to automatically load cover art.

Based on everything I've read about the new itunes, loading the album art is very hit or miss, only using the itunes store and the albums in it. And when has itunes automatically been able to clean up tags? I could have missed this but isn't this why all of these programs are out there? Most of the dowloaded music not from itunes always has wacky tags, misspellings etc. The fixtunes interface sure looks a lot more attractive too...

But is iTunes so bad that enough people think it's worth it to spend $25 for a workaround?

That's the real question, and the market seems to indicate the answer is no.

Fixtunes actually sounds pretty good. I did all the organization stuff it does a few months ago using a Winamp plugin (I normally use itunes but it couldn't re-organize your whole collection the way I wanted to so I used Winamp just for this purpose...although I wish itunes would periodically scan your drive for new music like winamp does since I rip through CDex rather than itunes).

If this was around when i was doing all this I would have paid $25 for it. I can't remember if I paid for the winamp plugin I used or not.

With I tunes you can edit the tag on a single file or multiple files at once.  Just select, right click and get info.

You can also put the album art in your self if Itunes 7 can't get it automatically for you.  Just find the album art online (200x200 - 300X300 is best) and just copy and paste it into the artwork field in the proper space in the "get info" area.  to add artwork for a whole album, select all the songs, do the get info routine, and just past the art work into the proper field.

I don't really see the value in that other program.

I take it back...after looking at that program a little more, if it does what it says it does it may be worth it...just for automatically fixing up your tags and dumping duplicates alone.  Does it work though?  These folks say not really:

For you PC people, let me help you out with a free program that really kicks ass. I've got MCE2005 on my new laptop and was not looking forward to installing iTunes because of having to sync two libraries (and iTunes wasn't being nice with artwork, while Media Player 10 is very good at this)

 Music Bridge

This program will sync the two, and convert the artwork, etc. Now you've got both libraries and artwork covered...for free  :)
