I thought it pretty much rocked like crazy. I went into it pretty much blind. I don't know any of their songs, other than seeing half of their video and spending about 2 minutes at a Tower listening station.
The place was packed early. I got there at about 9:15 (they came on around 10:00) and there was barely enough space to get into the main room. The crowd was loving it. Lots of fist-pumping, hand-clapping, even a few lighters. Everyone singing along, which was pretty funny to hear - 1000 people singing in this ridiculous falsetto.
The stage was very simple, but they had a giant wall of lights behind them that blinded everyone periodically. Lots of banter with the crowd. Lots of call-response stuff. Several body-suit changes. Points to the guitarist for sporting a Thin Lizzy t-shirt. During the encore the singer got on someone's shoulders and paraded through the crowd.
As for the music...well...they sort of sounded like Iron Maiden mixed with the pop sensibility of Cheap Trick, with a little bit swagger a la the New York Dolls thrown in.
I really don't care for their music, but they put on a helluva show. It reminded me a lot of the big arena shows in the early 80's. The ones at the Capital Centre when half of my high school would show up, get trashed off of 3 beers and turn it into a huge party.
It's good to see some folks having a good ol' rock 'n' roll time again. That seems to be lost at a lot of shows today. I think that in itself makes this band fairly endearing, even if you don't like their sound.
I'm glad I went. I'm glad it was cheap. I doubt I'd go again.
