Little late for the day, but this might interest some

It's #WorldRecordStoreDay and who better to celebrate it with than the owner of Vintage Vinyl - St. Louis, Tom "Papa" Ray?

Papa Ray's Vintage Vinyl Roadshow follows Ray around the country as he interviews other indie store owners, musicians of all genres and music lovers. Over the course of six episodes, you'll see archival footage from iconic musicians like Nirvana, Norah Jones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more!

The debut season continues tonight at 6:30 pm on #NinePBS; stream it now on the PBS app or here: https://www.ninepbs.org/blogs/arts/papa-rays-vintage-vinyl-roadshow/.

Vinyl bars are so in right now. The latest? Oasis: The Listening Bar, a Japanese-inspired record bar serving over-the-top sushi and sake flights in Clarendon

That Clutch LP reissue was $57.99. It did have a signed print… I did get $10 off from a frequent buyer card. Still…

Part of the fun for me buying vinyl was always how inexpensive it was 1990s -2010s. You could get a box of records for $20. Just buy shit and sample it. Now it’s almost all available for free to stream. Back then Diggin’ for records was part of the fun. There were few reissues coming out then so used records was your only option. Discovering new shit. And if the record was kinda banged up who cares as it was 50 cents. Might play it once and never again. Might never even play it. Of course trying to collect your favorites was part of it too.

Going to a record bar and eating sushi is sort of the polar opposite of that… but I get it, particularly for Japan, where space is at such a premium. And with jazz bars where you can listen to records that are prohibitively expensive.

These days am going through boxes of records and I can’t believe some of the crap I bought and the condition but when records could be had for 10 cents….selling some and donating some to goodwill.

This is great, a Dutch band, The Shoutouts gave you a silicone mold that you make  ice in and then play that on your turntable

Would definitely address the low supply of vinyl pucks

To be honest, that sounds kind of like a disaster on your turntable, but still a cool concept. (Pun intended)
