R.E.M., Van Halen Lead 2007 Rock Hall Class

R.E.M., Van Halen, Patti Smith, the Ronettes and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame March 12 during a ceremony at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. To be eligible for induction, this year's class had to release their first single no later than 1981.

Last year Miles Davis was inducted, so clearly the hall of fame has a broad definition of "rock n' roll."

It should really be called the Popular Music Hall of Fame. I'm sure sometime in the near future acts like Run DMC and Public Enemy will be inducted.

How about Madonna? Or do you have to be Black to be a non rock and roll act to get in?

I think that's an appropriate list. I mean c'mon guys back in 1997 Parlament Funkadelics was inducted. I don't see why hip hop isn't allowed in. After all, the beginning years of hip hop was based off of rock'n roll. Also, if you notice the Ronettes to me are an R&B group, who definately influenced a lot in rock.

I just didn't realize that REM released their first single in 1981 or prior to 1981. I thought they first started releasing albums and singles in 1984. guess I was wrong on that one.

Van Halen getting inducted should be interesting, if not humorous. I wonder if this includes Van Hagar or just the real Van Halen. I also wonder who's going to get on who's nerves first.

Well we all know the RRHOF is lame.  So many influential acts still to be even considered, yet people like Bob Seger, Lovin Spoonful and Billy Joel go in.

 Whatabout ...

 Roxy Music
Stooges (they were up this year, but were passed over)
 Cheap Trick
 Brian Eno
 Peter Gabriel

who else am I forgetting ??

I've been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a bunch of times.  And, I think it's awesome.  We always stop there on the way home from Cedar Point.

Now, the Experience Music Project....that is lame.

I'd put Alice Cooper in the Rock Hall before Grandmaster Flash.

I got to see the Brian Jonestown Massacre play live in the RNR HOF lobby for 5 bucks, including tour of the Hall. Pretty good deal I thought. FYI, Clash is the featured exhibit for the next few months.

Don't be a jerk with this comment. He is deserving!!

Madonna will be there one day...she just keeps rolling and rolling and making some great music.

She is #1 with the tour for 2006 but probably will have to wait due to the fact she is not as popular in the US as in Europe and the rest of the world.

Also music is the US now is geared toward hip-hop and r&b and she is just not there.
