Looks like I'm bagging the Boris show for the No Age/High Places show.  Kind of bummed, but them's the breaks of being a yuppie.

Do Elf Power still play material from A Dream in Sound live?

That's the only album of theirs that ever really did anything for me. I've yet to hear the new one, though.

Im now seeing this show on Saturday night and cant wait to see Mr Albarn again.

Damon Albarn & The Honest Jons Revue at Avery Fisher Hall
Featuring Tony Allen, Afel Bocoum, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Kokanko Sata, Candi Staton, Lobi Traore, Simone White, Victoria Williams and Damon Albarn.

The hippest world-music label going. Entertainment Weekly on Honest Jons

These wonderfully diverse artists have one thing in common: theyve all recorded for the independent London-based label Honest Jons. Damon Albarn, best known from his days as Blurs frontman and the wildly successful virtual band Gorillaz, co-founded the Honest Jons label with the landmark record shop. Since its first release, Mali Music, featuring Albarn and Ali Farka Toure sideman Afel Bocoum, Honest Jons has specialized in music that breathes a similar attitude no matter how disparate it may seem from the magical Malian blues of Lobi Traore to the blazing brass of the Hypnotics.

Damon Albarn and The Honest Jon's Revue was absolutely incredible. The sound at Avery Fisher Hall is one more places need to emulate (granted this is Lincoln Center and the Philharmonic does play here). Damon was more in the background for most of the songs - sometimes adding on keys, singing in the background, dancing, jumping around and all around supporting the artists (which is now clear its like one huge family). Simon Tong was playing as well along with Tony Allen. Tony was amazing (I never saw TGTBTQ play) and really skilled (understatement of the year).

Damon sang on the final song and his voice has held up, sounding more beautiful than ever before (I believe a song from Mali Music was played). All I can say is - Oxfam might have been the best thing he ever decided to do by having them get him down to Mali). The Honest Jon label has such a diverse talent. The real stand out was The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Family members were sitting behind me - so our area was incredibly loud and people were really into - but my god these guys are talented. Candi Staton had an amazing voice and she got the crowd clapping and singing along with her.

But most importantly, the artists from Mali and the African artists really made this show what it was. Im just glad I had a chance to see it. As someone noted, hes becoming London's answer to David Byrne.

And I dont know if its just me and people Im meeting lately, but it seems Afrobeat is so popular these days. Summerstage had a day full of Afrobeat artists, now this and countless other things. Perhaps its really my awareness of it all that has changed (and i guarantee its for the better). theres only so many indie/hipster bands one can take  ;)
