i hate the fact that i have put the personal kabosh on the shows going outings.  so many from the past and living so far from the good ones.  it gets tiring driving back n forth sometimes almost two hours one way.  and then i act mean to people like azag who go to a lot of concerts as if such an effort was attending school or going to work and thats just what you do.  my envy does call forth apologies.  i even gave up the jam band plans . . . but thats just because it got old and typical.

I'm in for JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound at the Velvet Frid

They were smokin' hot as the house band at the Numero Group show last year and I still stand by this description of them

The sound of a hard working Soul band that grew up listening to The Clash and what's amazing is that they work  them together without being overtly obvious.

That Peter Hook show was phenomenal. Loved every single second of it.

Yeah dude.

I went in with super low expectations but it was truly great.

His Ian impression is almost creepy.

Deep down I had slightly mixed feelings about what it may turn out to be...but Peter Hook knows what he's doing, and frankly I think that he was the muscle behind Joy Division. That's not downplaying the others' contributions of course. But he really did a great job of honoring the sanctity of the band's musical legacy. "Shadowplay" sounded so huge, and even the ending of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" really made me well up inside. What a great evening.

Re: Peter Hook show was this the project that Mani was once involved with and there was a tiff that erupt between the two of them on MySpace?  And sounds like I should have shook off my walking dead haze and attended it.

Re: The uptown sound show, I certainly hope they play first... as the Express puff piece on one of the other bands describe them as being lead by a hill reporter who has released an album inspired by Abramoff...

Really surprised and pleased to hear that this was good. If anyone finds any videos, even from other venues, please post.

Had expected it to be like the last New Order abomination of what they did to the legend that is Joy Division. You know, how they made the greatest of dark and gloomy Darkwave sound like happy good time party music, ideal for frat boys. I still cringe when I think of that!

I think Mani played as part of a gig or two in Europe but they had another project with Andy of the Smiths called Freebass that went to shit after they cyber fight.

It's looking like JC is playing first tomorrow which will mean an early night at Velvet for me (unheard of, I know).

And yeah Jaguar, they did the material justice last night.

Mani had a falling out with Hooky not too long ago. I thought he was in the band put found out about a month ago that he wasnt.

I enjoyed last night much more than I thought I would. I was getting worried that Hooky wasn't going to play any bass, especially when the first few songs went by and he did nothing but sing. But I'm glad he did. The music as a whole was sharp as hell and sounded great. And he did very well on vocals. He was great on "Day of the Lords". Highlight javascript:void(0);of the night for me was Transmission - sounded perfect.

I will be your kilt wearing DJ Sat Night for the Enter The Haggis / Scythian show and I must say from what I've heard of these bands it's interesting material.

Anyone see Badly Drawn Boy last night? I thought it was kind of a spotty and dour set, but all in all I thought there were some really great moments and still worth seeing. I mean, that's basically what a typical Badly Drawn Boy show is anyway, right? :)
