Ditto on both accounts.

Mangum Monday & Tuesday.

Edit: Ugh. Feeling too tired to go to Fucked Up.

Since I'll be out of town, I'm cool with that...

Mogwai postponed. So much for that one.

Not sure anyone else made it up to Philly for Riot fest, but that was easily my favorite festival I've ever attended. Being around a bunch of fellow punk rock music geeks was so much fun, as was seeing people like DJ Bonebrake and Joe Jack Talcum wandering around talking to folks. I've discovered that I cannot stand festivals with more than a couple stages. Focus on one or 2 genres, trim the fat, and keep the attendance size and price manageable. One day in an urban area is perfect. Lollapalooza is for the young 'uns. I realize I'm getting older, but the nonstop assault of bands like the Suicide Machines, Hot Water Music, X, Dead Milkmen and the Descendents made for a truly exceptional evening. Milo brought his kids onstage for "All-o-gistics", which was about one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. Positively adorable. The festival set off fireworks when they went on stage and it was so great to see them going off during "Silly Girl". And nothing sucks about seeing X perform the Los Angeles LP either. And I'm sorry to say this, but Philly has become my favorite city to see live music. Not that the 9:30 Club isn't still amazing, but Philly audiences aren't as jaded.

So Lollapalooza is for young people, and punk rock is for old geezers?

One thing of note is that as you get older, you tend to not want to be around hordes of younger, drunk, sweaty strangers bumping up into you constantly and calling you "bro" or "dude". None of that at Riot Fest. Plenty of room to move around. If you wanted to go into the pit, it was there...but you never felt trapped or that you couldn't go find your own space. And frankly, that's a huge bonus to me. Coachella used to be like that. Not anymore.

I wanted to go to Riot Feat but I've been waiting 15-16 years to see Kyuss so that ruined it for me.

Glad to hear it was every bit as awesome as I expected.

Wilco did seem a bit short due to it ending by 10:20, but it also started pretty early at about 8:20, so I think it was about 2 hours, which isn't bad.  The new stuff sounds fantastic, great show.

Exciting week coming up with Radiohead on Thrus in NYC than All Tomorrow's Parties in Asbury Park next weekend.  I'll be interseted to hear what those of you seeing Jeff Mangum here have to say about it.

The 8 new Wilco songs they played last night sounded fantastic. I wish it was a bit shorter actually, like 90 minutes...would have been perfect without the Foxtrot songs. Also, ending with Monday and Outtasite is so predictable. And Nick Lowe was kinda boring.
