Caught Dead Heart Bloom at Iota tonight (9/20). Their new stuff rocks harder, but then that's not saying much after Chelsea Diaries, I guess, but they definitely rocked. Played plenty of songs off their first album, including notably "New Messiah." Boris seemed livelier and appeared to be having fun. He's shaved off the Grizzly Adams/Unabomber beard he had the last time I saw them at Iota almost exactly a year ago.

Was anyone else there tonight? Just curious.

Wanted to go but the 4 hour roundtrip commute and other issues nixed that idea. Glad to hear the show was good though I wouldn't have expected any less. Boris is such a good all around musician. Really wished I could have gone.

On a personal level, good to hear that beard is gone. Then again, I'm just not a big facial hair enthusiast.

To the others: you can legally download all of their works for free on their website. (Buying them would sure help the band.)

Lately, I've been on a big Phaser kick (again) and have uploaded a couple of their tracks to my station. I sure miss Phaser!

what exactly does this mean?  a band doing a DJ set? i have never really asked or been to one of these things but what is it like so guitarist plays his favourite songs?

it sounds like the gayest thing life has ever thrown our way but maybe i am off base.

bands doing DJ sets can indeed be boring or horrible, but they can also be pretty cool.  i think it's interesting to hear what my favorite musicians think is good music.  sometimes they'll play remixes/alt versions/etc of their own stuff.

and i believe that the "some sorta oasis party thing" would be a listening party for the new oasis album.

Sonick, if it's any solace, The Morning After Girls just moved to NYC. Well, most of them. They recently put out a notice that they were looking for additional members to fill the holes. So, once they get all those details into place, odds are, we will see a lot more of them around these parts. At least, I sure hope so!

Xneverwherex, please let me know how Darker My Love and The Upsidedown were. It's really bugging me that I'm missing all 3 of these bands but life sucks like that sometimes. All a good match for each other too.

Hayden was excellent. Too bad very few people attended (maybe 35 people max).

Built to Spill is tomorrow. Too bad it is the same night as the Points CD release at the Black Cat. Really digging their sound.

How was the last Oxford Collapse show? anyone?

Me too! By the way, the opening band for Dead Heart Bloom was the Jackfields, whose lead singer is Mike Reina, also a member of Phaser, as I'm sure you know. Straight up rock/pop. I thought they were OK.
