Recommendations on some good RAWK
« on: September 20, 2006, 03:07:00 pm »
I'm loving the new (and older) ones by Comets on Fire, Priestess, Slayer and I'm working on Mastodon and Maiden. Would love some recommendations on other bands/records to check out. Doesn't need to be new, but I do want it to rock from front to back. I'm training pretty hard for a race and I need some music that doesn't let up.

 Recommendations?
 Thanks!

One of my favorites...white trash, fist-pumping, serious drinking music:

   <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002G13.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg" alt=" - " />

 or if you need something a little heavier:

   <img src="http://eil.com/newgallery/Helmet-Meantime-6066.jpg" alt=" - " />

 To me Helmet always sounded like a beat-up car with its muffler gone. Awesome.

 One more, for good measure:   <img src="http://eil.com/newgallery/Kyuss-Blues-For-The-Red-284124.jpg" alt=" - " />

kyuss is essential if you don't have them already.

 for fist-pumping, adrenalized ac/dc-type rawk, check out alabama thunderpussy, orange goblin, RPG, bible of the devil, the last vegas, speedealer, and zeke.

 for heavier, sludgier, doomier metal, check out dixie witch, beaten back to pure, valkyrie, earthride, the hidden hand, acid king, big business, black cobra, cavity, floor, and dove.

 i could go on and on, depends on what type of rawk you prefer...

Listen to CLUTCH.

 Hands down the best rock band in the universe.

mastodon's new album is brilliant.
 High on Fire's Blessed black wings will definitely get you moving.

Not really traditional rock in the guitar bass drums sense......but it's heavy and it freakin rocks.  A few songs from it are in my running playlist.

Great responses, thanks very much. And I'll surely check out any others that come in.

 Man, seeing that Paw cover brings back the memories. I loved that album, but somehow it slipped away. Same with Meantime and Ask Questions Later.

 Am going to pick up that Kyuss album tonight after work. Good call there. I might grab Meantime and Penance Soiree as well.

 Have got both Burning Brides and have played them to death.

 What's a good Clutch to start out with?

 Isn't Camera Obscura a Belle & Sebastian off-shoot?

 Snailhook, I've copied your whole post into a word document and when I have time to kick back with some relaxants, will start exploring them, as I haven't heard of most.

 Am still trying to get into Mastodon, and it's not for lack of trying. I like it, but after six or seven straight-through spins, I can't recall a single tune. I never really got into Leviathan either.

Paw brings back memories of the old club for me. I think it was Grant Fitch who at one point took off his guitar and went crowdsurfing. I think at one point they took out a bunch of lighter fluid and set the drums on fire. That was a wild show.
