From All Music:

Sharing a fondness for sophisticated soul and pop artists (the Smiths, New Order, Marvin Gaye, et al.), Stars was formed by Torquil Campbell and Chris Seligman in New York. Along with friends Evan Cranley (also of Big Rude Jake) and Amy Milan (who contributed to the soundtrack for the film Drowning Mona), the band relocated to Montreal.

I am planning on seeing the Ivy/Stars show on Friday but wondered, why do people keep saying that members of Stars also perform with the "Montreal 'super-group' Broken-Social Scene"? Stars are from Montreal but I recall BSS always saying they are from Ontario. Am I off-base or is this just because most of us people in the states figure all of canada is the same place? Maybe its tough to really pin down where a "collective" is from.

if you look to the left, Allmusic also says they were formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

   neither Montreal OR New York.

all canada is withing a few miles of the US border...or so i've experienced.

nationalism aside, we should all invite friends to this show, as they are great and I'd love to see it sell out.

Agreed. When I saw BSS in Ithaca (which most people assume is in Canada) a number of members of Stars performed at various times. I think this show has the potential to be great, although I know nothing about Ivy.

No Connecticut undergrad, Syracuse law. I grew up in Upstate NY (no not Yonkers) and had to go to Cornell to see live music while in law school. They have a really cool student org called the IMF (don't picket it stands for Independent Music Forum) that brings in small acts to this tiny rec room (150 people) in the student center. I saw a few really cool bands there that Pitchfork now creams over. Whoever was picking their acts really had a great ear- should probably be in A&R. It made the hour long drive worth it.

If you like Stars, don't miss the first act, Astaire.  Ivy is very similar to them as well.

Each of these would be worthy of headlining.  Got my tix...!
