I bet they hate the mountain goats, and think that they are superior to them, and vice-versa.

if memory serves me correct the city goats played with the carlsonics awhile back... it was a two bass and drummer lineup.  didn't hate 'em didn't love em... the band had an interested approach.

No nothing about the goats but I do know the Greenhornes are the real deal.  Always a great show.  If you own either Nuggets box set, you need to be at this show.

the last time i saw the greenehornes at the ottobar i was a tad disappointed... they were missing their keyboard player and looked tired and just wanted to leave.  it didn't help that it was a monday in baltimore with maybe 40 people in the audience most of whom where there to see the shite local act that went on first. their keyboard player was there secret weapon and without her it was good not great...

The first time I saw them about 3 or 4 years ago at VL they were quite good.  They had that big guy on organ...he was awesome.  Since then they've gotten progressively more and more dull as a live band.  They sound ok live, but I sure miss the organ and they all just stand there looking quite bored and not saying a word to the audience.  No energy at all from the stage.  The records are both very very good though.  Anyone into R&B garagey stuff would really like the records.

For what it's worth Patrick Keeler and Jack Lawrence from the Greenhornes are the rhythm section on the Loretta Lynn-Jack White "Van Lear Rose" album.

Greenhornes should definitely bring back the tubby keyboard player.  Their DC area shows aren't as high energy as they should be, but they always rip shit up at Sleazefest every August.

i'm in complete agreement with chaz on the greenhornes. that tubby dude made a good band great live. the first time i saw them, they nailed what they were shooting for and did it with a vast amount of energy. the following two times i've caught them, they got more dull. i think i'll sit this one out.

besides, i'm hoping to see devendra banhart and joanna newsom at the iota. i hope that doesn't sell out.

hmmm, when might they go on?  I've got movie plans (gotta catch "Life of Brian" before it leaves!), but might be just right for stopping by the Cat...
