Thoughts and ramblings...
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:44:00 am »
Elvis Costello coming to the 930 Club?? How the hell did I miss this?? When was this announced?? I'm assuming it sold out in minutes...

WEEN!!! First time in two years they didn't announce a stop at the 930. They've melted the place the last two times.

TV on the Radio tonight, woo!

OK I'll play... Who isn't really feeling any excitement for VFest yet?

The Police are great but unfortunately I'd prefer them at the phone booth.. Never really got into the Smashing Pumpkins, in fact walked out on them when they headlined Lollapalooza.  The Beastie Boys seem to coasting and a bit past it at this point.  The rest mentioned just don't spark a gotta go deal with 89,999 of my closest friends in the August humidity for...

You walked out too?  Heard drowned, then left.  It was horrible sounding.  Missed them when they rocked circa Gish.  Have seen some live footage from that era and it rocked.

Kosmo still thinks Laurie Anderson is cutting edge.

Lotsa acts I'd like to see but knowing that it's unaffordable for me and in August just turns me off. If I was a few years younger and had a fatter wallet then maybe....

Just saw her short film "Hidden Inside Mountains" (2005) at UMCP. She's still got it; totally mesmerizing.

Unfortunately, i think I've grown out of going to festivals.

Way too many people, over-the-hill headliners, small acts that are much better to see in clubs, smelly port-o-pottys, shitty sound, blah, blah.

But they're only playing a few cities this spring... there'll be a lot more gigs in the fall when they have a new CD out.  I'm gonna try and see them in Montreal... I already have plans to be there that weekend for the Canadian Grand Prix.

My own rambling: why isn't Cornelius sold out at Sonar?  He's only the most inspired musical genius of our time.

yup exactly  how i feel at this point regarding outdoor festival... i can do a event like Manu Chau at Merriweather and would like to get out to Noisefest at some point... Even paying for "VIP" treatment isn't probably going to make the Vfest a enjoyable experience.

Haven't honestly listen to Ms Anderson in awhile but was totally into her early work, she was my best point of reference for how I felt about the Books...

The Gene/Dave show a couple weeks ago was fun. I would've went to Allentown if I wasn't going to coachella.

Indeed, that show was amazing. Very cool to see Gener in that setting.

I'm pondering a trip to Pittsburgh in June...

While I agree with you on this, check out Bumbershoot in Seattle. It may not get all the big names that some of the other festivals do, but I think it avoids some of the pitfalls you cite.

well, as i have often stated, i cannot go, so i have no excitement for it!!!

however, i may be in the minority about festivals.  i love festivals, more than little club shows.  people speak of the intimacy thing with small clubs, but i think of it as the boredom factor sometimes.  at a festival there are always entertaining people doing some silly shit and you never know what act will steal the show for you, and make that memorable moment.  a lot of times club shows are soo crowded, but at festivals, you can usually find space to freak out.  :)
i will be 30 in July, so dont just call me young, but if i could hit, Coachella, Lollapalooza and V-Fest every year, i'd almost be content with not going to another club show again!!

if i was in town, i'd be gettin pumped for it (though, PLEASE dont schedule it against lolla again!)
