Does anyone know where to rent a house for the Coachella weekend?

 Sure...however, we are undecided right now as the lineup has not been announced. If Bjork is playing, we'll definitely be there. Did you rent a condo/house last year (or other years?)...

never been to coachella, so i have no prior experience with lodging in the area... sorry.
 
 no worries about not committing to going yet, we can coordinate when the official line-up is announced.  uh, i suppose we could also coordinate in a non-public way

Not sure what your budgets are, but a few years back I just flew into orange county and got a cheap hotel next to disney, rented a car and drove to indio and back... really no bid deal... less than two hours one way.  If you package it through expedia, etc., that might work out even better.

personally, after a long day of roasting in the sun and being blasted by music, a two-hour drive is the last thing i'd look forward to.  i'd definitely want to keep it local, 20-30 minute drive tops.  heck, the on-site camping doesn't sound bad... part of the festival experience

Yep, and it's gonna be a 3 day fest this year.
 Orange County is a long ways though. We are planning to fly to the Ontario airport and driving from there to Indio.

if you can find a hotel in Indio, they are (were) pretty cheap.  we've never paid more than $120 a night (and that was for the nice room on the golf course).
 
   getting in and out of chella can be an utter bitch.  its taken us anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to get to our Indio hotel before after the show.  
 
   if you plan on staying til the end each night, i would try to find anything within walking distance...its priceless, trust me!    
 
    but most of those places are booked by now i would think.  
 
   i reserve my room in October each year, then cancel if i dont need it

hey Joe, why don't you find one of the b&b's in Palm Springs? Some of them are pretty affordable, and it's never taken me more than an hour to get back to Palm Springs after the show. Maybe it was just dumb luck and because I didn't wait until the very end of sets to leave, but to me it was worth it.

I guess everybody's got their own preferences - but to me: accomodations within walking distance are essential. Even if it's a relatively long walk. No way I'd get in a car before/after & endure that traffic.

There are no accomodations within walking distance of Coachella that I know of.
 
 Your best bet is a hotel somewhere in Indio that offers a shuttle.  We stayed at the Best Western last year, and they had a $5 per person shuttle van.
 
 I do NOT reccommend staying further than Hemet, Redlands or San Bernadino unless you plan on leaving before the final headliner.  It takes forever to get out of the parking lots and you're already exahusted from the day, so driving more than an hour back to your hotel at like 2am after that SUCKS.

there are several places within walking distance of the concert.  
 
 i dont mean two city blocks away, but within 2 miles.  and its flat out there!!!!
 
 plus, the time we stayed about a mile and a half away, we walked to and from the show and just passed by all the cars in the traffic jam both ways....i guarantee it was faster than getting in and out of that dirt lot they stuff you in!!!!!

 We've also parked an RV in town @ a site - had showers, etc. & then hoofed it back & forth.
 
 Worst case - I'd camp. No way I'm driving in/out.
 
 Does everyone abstain @ these events? How can you even think about driving?!?

when you consider having a bed, breakfast, *shower*, climate control, a pool to relax by 'til 2-3pm while you're waiting for stuff like perry farrell's dj set and the dears to wrap up.. all this waiting for you when you get back... the hour drive (really a 20 minute drive with no traffic) back to your palm springs hotel is more than worth it.
 
 plus you have that in-n-out burger to stop at on the way home.
 
 i say go with a modest hotel in palm springs (which you can still find rooms at this time)

Yes...its too hot and expensive to drink and I don't do anything else.
