McLusky news
« on: June 15, 2003, 06:44:00 pm »
Matt, the drummer of McLusky, has left the band. But apparently, the band is strong and will continue on.  The following is supposedly from the band's manager:

"Things were a lot more amicable than everyone here seems to be assuming. I know "musical differences" is virtually a cliche but in this case it is absolutely true. The new material wasn't uniting the band the way the old stuff did.

In terms of the future, everything is good. There is a lot of new material, there is a new single in the can which will be out August 18th, the band have just been confirmed for Reading. You can expect a slightly altered mclusky but they have not turned into Rick Astley.

Matt and I are still friends, Matt and Falko and Jon are still friends. We have five - seven years shared experiences and a lot of them were ####ing cool. Matt will now be incessantly shagging for another cause and when I spoke to him last night he seemed very happy at the prospect. This was not a sacking, it was a parting.

 I am the manager.

 The band will continue.

Matt is gone but not forgotten. It was good and now things have changed.

We will see you at Reading.

 There will be rock.

All is well. Go forth and sleep soundly."

Who knows what really happened. I'm just relieved that the band will carry on!

I read somewhere that the new album is coming out on 8 track cassette only.  That will suck!  If they don't want to put it on cd they should at least do vinyl.

I guess Mankie and Rhett will be about the only two who will be able to listen.

And wouldn't you know it? McLusky is not their kind of music!

 What a crying shame.

how serious is this... are there even companies that duplicate let alone manufacture blank 8-track cassettes anymore.  they could round a bunch of old 8-tracks and record over them, but think of the hassel for anything more than a couple hundred copies.  interesting idea if they can pull it off.

I read it somewhere but can't find it again.  It was either an NME, Mojo or Record Collector mag.  Maybe they were taking the piss or maybe they got the wrong information.  I'm still trying to find the article again.

Ok, found it.  This is from the June 2003 edition of The Fly Magazine.  It's a free magazine that you can get in most record stores.

"McLusky are working with alternative legend Steve Albini for their next album, which will be released in the autumn on an eight-track cassette only!  They're recording it at the ex-military underground bunker that is Electrical Audio, and the band have included a Roni Size tribute hidden track."

Is it serious?  I guess we'll see.
