it is pretty hard to find, you have to go to npr.org, and move your eyeballs slightly right

That's the only thing I've ever heard associated with NPR that looks to the right.

I thought the White Stripes were brilliant.  It was such a great show from start to finish.

Meg has gotten much better on the drums and Jack's guitar solos are starting to just be straight up abstract.  The view from the pit is priceless compared to other parts of the venue.

The Shins....i dont see what makes them so special, just another boring indie pop band.
not worth paying to see, but nice to know he can hit those high notes live too  :)

only problem with the night, or Merriweather in general, is the BATHROOMS!!!

every time i have ever been there, there are enormous lines for the bathrooms. even while the bands are on, its just a little ridiculous.  its not like there isnt enough space to make bigger ones. waiting in line for 10 minutes (and girls twice that long) during the band is a little much!!!!!

   otherwise, no complaints.   :)

unless the show is super crowded, there are almost never any lines at the bathrooms behind the lawn.  it's usually faster to walk there and back than it is to wait in line.

yeah, i did find that out, but when you're in the pit, its quite a walk.

either way, not enough to come close to ruining a great night  :)

yes, quite possibly.
that's a great excuse for following them around, too, because last i checked they weren't even using setlists.

i was really glad to read all of your wonderful reviews of this show, because the stripes are one of my top...three? favorite bands, and i had school today and couldn't go and almost threw myself in a paper shredder as a result because they STILL put on the best show ever.

i got tickets to see them in LA in august for my birthday, which was awesome, as i hadn't seen them since the GWU show as well (which i thought was great) and knew i wouldn't be coming to this one.  they played A LOT off the self titled, which was incredible...so much fun, and everybody there were huge fans and there is no better feeling than seeing a whole crowd with you in black, red, and white who know all the words to Sugar Never Tasted So Good, and cheer loud as hell alongside as they play Jolene.  stripes fans are just so great.

what i've come to realize about this band, though, is that--and i don't recall EXACTLY who brought this up, but one of you did?--their live shows are quite "restoring."  the best i have been able to describe them as is a kind of musical orgasm.  in a way, they are totally having sex up there...feeding ideas off of each other and playing what is right and bouncing around and just going crazy and having so much fucking fun with it.  they are speeding up and slowing down and going back and fourth and even roleplaying (ex. I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED JACK WHITE IN A LOINCLOTH)!  that's the best way i can describe it.  but i mean, if you have listened to their songs as much as i do sometimes; they can wear out very fast.  so the live shows are a great wake up.  and once you see this band live, let me tell you, you will be listening to them on your ipod for like...well, a really long time.

i'd say they are one of, if not the, best live band out there right now.

i don't know a lot of white stripes fans, as many people have virtually heard Seven Nation Army overplayed on the radio, and said, "this band sucks!" and written it off like that.  if i was Paris Hilton, i would send every one of these naysayers to one of the stripes' shows and they would come out changed men...

but thanks again for all the kind words and the setlist.  it sounds like it was an amazing show, and i'm glad at least all you guys could go.

Crap! I'm too slow. I actually have a dimeadozen.org account, too. Did anyone download this before it was yanked or know of any other torrent sites hosting it (or similar torrent)? Thanks.

White Stripes' Sonic Boom Has Merriweather Rocking

 Thursday, September 29, 2005; C05

As the White Stripes blazed open their Merriweather Post Pavilion show Tuesday with the single "Blue Orchid," the thought was inescapable: How can two people make so much noise?

But for a nearly nonstop 95 minutes, the Detroit duo owned the audience with their primal, scorching, irresistible brand of blues-edged rock.

The Stripes' candy-cane color scheme was in place, with a red-and-white backdrop of palm trees and a sun-encircled apple making the stage look like a bizarro tropical paradise.

Just as theatrical were the stars: Jack White, a practical one-man band outfitted in a black top hat and red T-shirt and pants, and Meg White, Jack's "big sister"/ex-wife, whose alternately robotic and sultry drumming is simplistic but serves the music well.

The pair sped through 30-odd songs, some bleeding into others as Jack skipped the chitchat to focus on his multiple instrumentation -- guitars electric, acoustic and slide dominated, with visits to a grand and an electric piano, synthesizer, and later a marimba for set-closer "The Nurse."

Meg wasn't exactly overshadowed, projecting a magnetic presence while perched high at her red drum kit and even once taking center stage to sing "In the Cold, Cold Night." But it was Jack who nearly single-handedly -- and often -footedly -- drowned Merriweather with blistering rock.
