The Cowboy Hat Rule
« on: April 21, 2004, 11:04:00 am »
I just saw another person wearing a cowboy hat.   There should be a rule:

NO COWBOY HATS EAST OF OKLAHOMA!

Please, can we include cowboy boots with that rule?

And why do they walk like they've just shit in their pants when they wear those god-awful things?

I remember the first time Dwight Yoakam played the 930 and a goodly line of people were waiting to get in when I drove by; every one of them turned to check me out closely with some trepidation as my car approached... you could tell they were nervous about standing out on V St with their big stupid cowboy hats on

hmmmm, interesting point. S. American footie jerseys are just tacky, but European ones are a little more tasteful.

HEY! They're a lot more tasteful than NASCAR jackets and runny-catchy jerseys....and what about basketball vests? It's a fucking vest! Put a shirt over it for crying out loud!

i don't think east/west is the appropriate designation . . .rather, it would be more of an l shape, going down the mississippi, and going east between arkansas and missouri, north to tennesse and kentucky, then going straight east somewhere in southern virginia to the ocean.  oh, and none in florida.

I think cowboy hats and boots look sexy on the right person.

Of course, if you're stocky/fat and lacking nice legs/a pretty or handsome face (I think this accounts for most people on the board), they will look stupid on you instead of sexy.

I thought it was hilarious when John Roderick of the Long Winters commented that, "I lived in DC during the first Bush administration, and there were always lots of guys who walked around with blue buttoned up oxfords and short hair. I see those guys ar all back in town." (my friend who was clad in said shirt and hair was a bit embarrassed)

In terms of fashion, DC has got to be the most boring, conventional, conformist major city in the whole world. I say bring on the cowboy hats, or anything else that might add some fashion diversity in this city.
