Cinerama really was great, much better than I expected and my hopes were high.  They didnt even play my 3 favorite songs and it was still great.  Gedge is a great entertainer, even if he was egged on by the fact he was being filmed.

 The openers were god awful.

WOW,

yeah Cinerama sounded great last night. That was definately one of the better sounding shows I have been to at the blackcat.

I liked it when the guitar work was ferocious and feedbacky and you thought it really couldnt get any louder then the guitarist hit the peddle and the sound doubled.

David Gedge is a mighty good songwriter....

 But the supports were awful.

it really was a tremendous night............why oh why did someone think that the openers would appeal to cineramas audience?  it was painful.

i loved every minute of gedge's performance so i guess it weighed out.........well done markie for giving gedge the line of the song he forgot.............which one was that again?

If I remember correctly it was the first song on Torino....

The words of which I have always loved:

I'm not denying that I was trying to appear nonchalant
You're not my wife; it's your own life and you can kiss who you want
But that kiss lasted slightly longer than strictly was right
You say you tried to break off but he was stronger
 Well maybe you might
Not be quite as blame free as your expression suggests
If he's only an old buddy why does he stare at your breasts?
And is he always quite so zealous about keeping in touch?
I don't usually get this jealous, but that was too much
 Please don't tease
Just stay away from him from today
I mean it, I've seen it
You say it's all just for fun, but look what you've done
Listen, babe, he was already trying to get his hand down your shirt!
From what you're saying (well, unless you're lying!) he's going to get hurt
 Please don't tease
Just stay away from him from today
I mean it, I've seen it
You say it's all just for fun, but look what you've done

Something in your past put meaning to the song?

Not entirely,

I just think its a shrewd and yet naive view of a relationship. It makes it bittersweet.

Why? You never watched one of your partners flirt with someone and thought, hey up, this doesn't look right?

Not really, I'm not the jealous type. Flirting is okay but if lips make contact then we have to talk. As many street fights that I've been in during my past, not one was over a girl.

Very wise. Whats the point over fighting over someone who would rather be with someone else? It never made any sense to me.

I think thats why I like the first couple of lines of the song and its genral attitude so much. Its a shame that you just know he is about to get dumped....

Cheers to Markie for getting me out last night.  Cinerama were amazing.  And yes, while Markie gets props for helping David out when he forgot the lyric, my favorite part was David hecklinig back when Markie was suggesting the next song off the play list.  Too funny.

My favorite tune was the second to last one - I think Markie said it was "Kerry, Kerry" but my ears were still ringing so I could barely hear him - that song kicked ass.

Anyway, the guy is an a amazing songwriter - start to finish a great show.  Which is good because the openers were absolute horrid crap.

Thanks.  I thought you said Kennedy but when I went home looking for it last night I couldn't find it on the cinerama web site.   Kerry was the only thing close.  I didn't realize it was Wedding Present song.  Now I have 2 CDs to pick up.

I can usually find some good qualities out of openning bands that I have never listened to, but last night was an exception, esp. the geezer flanked by the two hookers.  The tunes were predictable and boring and the instrumetation made it that much worse.  With a real drum kit, a bass player, and decent chops they might have been able to present their songs better, but their current set up just doesn't work for me.  Cinerama was very good though.  I picked up Torino before the show and listened to some of it already.  That David Gedge must have a pretty tortured past.  Very good music though.  Thanks for the recommendation Andrew!
