The Fixx/Berlin Roll Call.
« on: July 21, 2005, 10:46:00 am »
Who's going tonight?

I'll be there - ran into a friend last night who had an extra ticket so I'm excited!

I've not seen either of these bands live before so it should be a treat.  I'd particularly love to hear "Red Skies" and "Saved By Zero" from The Fixx and "Masquerade" from Berlin.

If you're there, look for me!  I'm the girl with purple hair and am pretty much always dressed in all black.  ;)   Pics of me are on my MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/jjmedusa

 Cheers

I would love to go tonight but I already had Nationals tickets. Berlin were great the one time I saw them and I'm really upset that I won't see The Fixx. I'll be awaiting your review.

I will be there.  I am seriously debating the merits of wearing my t-shirt from the Love Life tour in 1984.  Tragically nerdy, I know.

i'm also curious about the fixx... noticed on a publicity photo for the group that Gary Tibbs (Roxy Music, Adam and the Ants) is playing bass with them.  Interesting that other then him the originial lineup is intact.

The Fixx sounds great. Saw them Tuesday night in Annapolis. They'll do three new songs. They'll do their obligatory hits. Gary Tibbs is spot on with the band. He said he watched Roxy Music during Live8 and thought they sounded good.

Haven't seen Berlin since 1987 on the Count Three and Pray tour but the album before the latest, Voyeur, is good stuff. Their latest, 4Play, can only be bought online. Mostly cover tunes.

See you tonight! I've managed to get 5 people plus my husband to indulge in the concert tonight!

My oh my - what an INCREDIBLE show!

I was saying wow throughout the entire thing but most especially during Berlin's set.

I will post my review at some point soon, when I'm not so tired.  ;)

 Cheers

There was this two year period, 1983-1985, in which I saw the Fixx four times -- they were opening for everyone back then!  Loved them, and Cy Curnin is one hoot of an oddball.  I would have loved to go but had a conflict.

Yeah, he was fun to watch.  He could join the Happy Hands club with all those hand motions he uses.

They had a decent showing, definitly not packed...i'm not sure of the exact size of the crowd..we were up front.  It looked like the stage had been extended a bit to make the space on the floor seem smaller(do they do that there?)...or maybe i just haven't been to the club in a while.

The guy in front of me kept turning around and asking permission to snap photos with his phone cam.  That made laugh.

Hell yes, they do.  When I first looked in the door at the Teenage Fanclub band, I actually exclaimed aloud "holy shit that stage is close to the back of the room!"

I'd love to know how many stage positions they have, and how they decide where to put it...

the stage and stacks are on wheels, and the lighting rig has motor controls to move it back and forth, up and down.

the stage will go all the way up to the mix position.  the stacks and the lights will go to just shy of the office bar.

stage placement has to do with how many tickets are sold and how many people we expect to show up.
