So it's the hipsters V. the hippies in brooklyn...
« on: April 20, 2007, 12:43:00 pm »
Angry Williamsburg hipsters are blogging about a couple jambands playing McCarren Pool this summer and stupid hippies are taking it personally. This is making for some amusing reading.

Curbed (funny comments from both sides)

  Crooked Rain

 Brooklyn Vegan

PT Bisco (You'll feel a whole lot dumber after reading this but the reactions to the angry hipsters are funny.

Yes, I have this much time on my hands.

You forgot Productshopnyc:

 Here it is:

McCARREN POOL | Disco Biscuits & Unphrey's McGee, Douchebags

I'm not about to debate whether jam bands suck or not. Hell, I could really give two shits that Clear Channel/Live Nation booked the Disco Biscuits & Unphrey's McGee show at McCarren Park Pool. Sure it seems to be an odd choice, but whatever, that's not what bothers me.

The thing that truly makes this show so ridiculous is that tickets go on sale on 4/20 at 4:20pm. This folks, is exactly why so many people make fun of jam bands. Seriously, both of these groups are made up of people in their thirties. I don't care that they smoke the marijuana, but what kind of douchebag is making 4-20 jokes in their thirties? What fucking losers........

this prettymuch sums up my feelings on the issue.
unless you're rear-ending me at a jersey turnpike tollbooth, i could really care less if you're smoking pot, but the "420 culture" is fucking stupid.  learn to have a conversation that doesn't involve pot or getting high or relating something to getting/being high or just fucking die.

Oops, that wasn't my opinion. It was productshop's. I have nothing against jam bands and their fans.

I actually like both bands but a decent amount of their fans (especially the disco biscuits') are some of the most over-priveleged, uncultured, under-worked, drug-addicted assholes I've come across.

Oh c'mon now. I bet there are certain people from this very board who can't hold a conversation without talking about music, or turning a conversation into a music related talk. What's the difference?

unlike drugs, music has been a constant in my life that i'm fairly confident will be a central element for a long time.  by and large, for the nam on the street, music makes you more interesting, not less.

GI Joes were, once upon a time, really important to me too.  i got over them.  someone who insists on turning every conversation to, or centering their lives around, GI Joes can expect to be ridiculed by me and told to grow up.  of course, anything in small doses is fine (pun intended).

No doubt we'd lose the war much quicker.
