Presets vs. Cut Copy
« on: September 27, 2008, 10:57:00 am »
Did anyone go to the show last night? I was at DC9 grabbing a few drinks before the show and met a few people who were going but, like me, they were going to see The Presets. And once at the show A met even MORE people who were there to see The Presets, PLUS I think Cut Copy was upstaged by them.

 Just my thoughts.

that's silly 'cause Cut Copy is better musically than the Presets.

I went to see The Presets in NYC. Ive seen them a few times and thought they sounded better other times. The sound at Webster Hall in general was really bad.

Im a big fan of Cut Copy from what I had heard online. I didnt realize they played with a full band live and it kinda took away from what I was expecting. Thought it just would have been the 3 guys much in the same realm as The Presets. Guess I was wrong on that one.

Left the set early, mostly due to sound and also being way tired. I definitely preferred the Presets set over Cut Copy.

my take on the evening was there was a serious 80's synthpop time warp converging on the club with Heartbreaker being the group most associated with that sound.

Presets reminded me of the group Blancmange in terms of the singer, but they had this incessant pounding industry/goth bass line that got real tedious 20 to 25 minutes into their set.  At point I thought they were going to break into "It's A Sin" by the Pet Shop Boys.

Cut Copy at least live was able to break free some the synth laden studio tracks and break into a wall of guitar feedback part way through their set.  However,  I was wiped out and having heard the one track, "Far Away" that stands out in my mind as one their betters ones it was time to leave.

And both groups made use of a nifty lighting setup...

The light set-up was pretty amazing. Both bands dwfinetly had the club moving all night.

I was exhausted alll day Saturday.

This is one of the last things I ever thought I'd type but I agree with manimtired.

Yeah, it sucks that the only good music made is played and played and played for years and is the only real source of music today.

If only good music were made these days...

 it's a real shame.
