The purpose is to see how many sets you plan to catch vs. how many you are actually able to.

The year I went, I didn't find the crowds too terrible, but I still had to cut my list of acts to catch in half as the sheer logistics of moving from stage to stage wouldn't allow it.  Godspeed!

Right you are, I've totally done away with running around with my head cut off.  You see who you see, and for the most part you can't go wrong and you'll always get your money's worth.  I just try to plot against when I'll be able to see any or all acts through out the year rather than just trying to get everyone together at one site.  It's made things more manageable, less stressful, and ultimately more enjoyable.

As far as meeting other boardies, I would rather have everyone meet other people from far flung places that happen to land in Cali this weekend, we can see and be sick of each other right here the rest of the year.

That said if you recognize me I won't be a dick, and might even show you where to get a real drink that can accompany you around the festival rather than being couped up in the chicken wire drinking overpriced beer and wine.

i told you my schedule was intense      :)

seriously tho, close down all your browser windows first (exit the app completely) then try again, or use another browser (IE vs. firefox), as a last resort: reboot.

ok, now i definitely want to meet you over there      :D       but you can save yourself the discomfort of actually meeting me by explaining what you mean...

while i wouldn't be against meeting other people, don't think i'd want to do it at the festie itself - i don't really have time to socialize, my schedule is packed.  a viable option might be meeting up before or after the day's festivities... pre-party at my hotel's pool, or burgers at in-n-out afterwards, etc.  if you're dorky enough to be interested, PM me and i'll send you my cell#, we can coordinate that way.  yes, seriously.

Meeting people in this context is merely the communal nature of the festival.  It's inevitable you'll be groovin to a particular band and you'll come across other fans either singing the lyrics or basically loosing their minds, then there will be a "who you seeing next"? and voila you've met someone new, or something along those lines like of meeting people while tailgating in the parking lot.  I'm not encouraging actively seeking new relationships here, they seem to just organically emerge at least that's been my experience.

Anyway as to to the real drinks, PM me, that's not the kind of information that will be worth much in the future if it's floating out on the web.

the more bootleg version of this (you've probably thought up this idea already, but just in case): both times i've been, we would just buy 4-5 big suntan lotion bottles (typically around 14-16 oz each). empty out (and wash thoroughly!). fill with either jack daniels or vodka (or whatever your liquor of choice).

then buy those $5 large lemonade icey things and spike them w/ the "suntan lotion". good way to get a nice buzz while keeping hydrated...

Cornelius or The Good, The Bad & The Queen (unsure yet)

Cornelius is highly recommended.  His 2002 show @ 930 had the best integration of visual elements to live music I've ever experienced

Agreed.  Having seen both Cornelius and GBQ, I'd recommend Cornelius.

 As for:
 LCD SS/Sparklehorse/Gotan Project (unsure yet)

... having seen both LCD Soundsystem and Gotan Project, I'd recommend Gotan Project.

I was really impressed by Gotan Project's Nov. 2003 show at the 9:30 Club.  Plus they seem to do North American shows all too rarely, whereas LCD Soundsystem is touring all the time -- grab the opportunity to see Gotan Project while you can.

I saw Corneilius at Glasto '99.  Very good but I am sure his live show has changed quite a bit since then.  I had to leave his set early to catch Mercury Rev in their full on Deserter's Songs phase.
