« on: September 15, 2004, 06:47:00 pm »
The Zombies & Love
@ State Theater Falls Church, VA
 Saturday October 16
 Doors: 7 PM
 Showtime 9 PM
 Tickets: $30

 and THIS gets announced...

 Living Colour & Public Enemy
 @ 9:30 Club â?¢ Washington, DC
 Late Show! 10pm Doors
 SAT. OCT. 16
 $25.00

Well, to be completely honest I'm the most passionate about Public Enemy than the rest mentioned, but I've still been a big fan of The Zombies, Love, and Living Colour for a few years now.

So what I'm asking you concert gurus is.. do you think I should attempt going to the state theater show before leaving for the 9:30 club? Im still debating whether it will be worth it or not.

Dude, I'm so excited about the Living Colour/Public Enemy show. I saw Living Colour the last time they were here and they were really good live. But I'm most excited about PE, this is gonna be a good one.

I LOVE Public Enemy, but Flav hangs with that guy from New Kids On The Block now.  And they just collaborated with MOBY of all people; I mean, Moby just sucks.  And PE haven't put out a sick record in years.  But they did make those first 3... and Chuck D is still cool.  Is Terminator X still their DJ?  If not, screw it.

I LOVE Love too; I have the recent Forever Changes DVD and the songs sound EXACTLY like the record, which works for me, but I'm trying to help you decide.  Plus Arthur Lee may not tour again since he's getting old(er), but I dunno, I'm sure he's making a nice bit of cash.

As for The Zombies and Living Colour, I haven't a clue.

I would choose Love.  Hope this helps.

hope this helps:

love: i saw them in 2002 in philly, and in 2003 at the birchmere. both shows were amazing, and arthur lee's voice is still powerful and emotive. i wouldn't miss an opportunity to see love if i were you. take note, however, that i am biased, since "forever changes" is my favorite record of all-time, and if love stopped making records after "four sail," they'd be my favorite band of all-time.

the zombies: with colin blunstone and rod argent. if blunstone's involved, it will at least be good. i have not seen any variation of the zombies live.

living colour: saw them at the 9:30 in 2001. it was a good show, but a bit wanky. you won't miss a whole lot if you skip out on this, especially since they'll probably be back next year anyway.

public enemy: i've never seen them live, but i think they're past their prime. terminator x being there would make me think twice about seeing them, but my intuition tells me that it won't be that good. i doubt they'll even come close to the genius that is "fear of a plack planet."

 verdict: go see love.

as for me, i am hoping to see love and at least some of the zombies. i have to run to the warehouse to check in on bloodthirsty lovers that night, too. what a full night of music in DC.

So is that a planet run by people who don't floss and use listerine?.......Ok, so plaque is spelled differently but at least it sounds the same.

the august 2001 living colour show was fantastic. their show last fall was HORRIBLE. it was such a contrast to the 2001 concert. so unbelievable bad, so bad. such a disappointment.

More like the first FIVE p.e. albums, in my opinion. I saw PE at nation 2 years ago and it was just incredible. Flava didnt perform because he was in jail for whatever reason. But they performed just about every single they've released and only a handful of songs past the apocalypse 91 era. The show went on for about 2 1/2 hours. When I left, they were still on stage and Professor Griff was going bezerk on the drums.

Wow, I actually enjoyed last fall's show. Maybe cause I listened to the new cd a few times the days before the show. They played alot from that.

and snailhook, terminator x won't be present since he retired from music in 1998. DJ Lord has replaced him. But frankly, he really never contributed much to the group anyway. Johnny Juice, Hank Shocklee, and even Chuck D did about 90% of the scratches on all of the PE albums. Terminator X was only given credit because he was pretty wealthy and was able to help the group out financially in exchange for a place in the band. This was not too uncommon in hip hop. Rakim did all of the beatmaking and scratches on all of the Eric B & Rakim albums too.

The first four for sure, I'm sorry, I forgot about Apocalypse, that's a good one.  I even liked Greatest Misses.  What came after those records that you liked?  I'm just curious, because I was told to stay far away from everything else...Let me know.

Yea I didnt count Greatest Misses since it's just a collection of rare/unreleased songs, but I enjoy that too. Their fifth album is Muse Sick-N-Hour Mess Age. It's definitely a notch below their greatest work, but it's a really good album nonetheless. The production on it is still as intense and frantic as ever and Chuck D just as angry. But, I can't really disagree with anyone who says that they should have disbanded after Fear of a Black Planet. Who can ever forget the way that album closes?

I've seen PE twice.  Once at Ritchie Coliseum in '92/'93 with Ice-T, and when they did the Smokin' Grooves Tour like 6 years ago.  Both times they were great.  I plan on being at this show if my buddy will go.  But I don't know if I can go by myself.  But no matter what, I will try and be there.

Dude, I'll be there if you want me to pick up a ticket for you. I'll be buying mine on Tuesday when I go to see George Clinton.

And he hooked up Brigitte Neilsen on that show, too!
