I would try listening to the music. But I'm curious how you got "fake and manufactured" out of what you read of her seemingly self-destructive tendencies, who's faking and who's manufacturing here?
Are those categorizations you've made meant to be negative, or merely objective?
Merely objective. I have nothing against her, and as I said, I haven't heard her music. But your head is in the sand if you think that the image of "elegantly wasted, barely teetering on the brink of destruction" hasn't been done to death since the Strokes hit it big, and that many, many bands are trying to use that template to make it big. And the fact that she's copped this image so recently makes me cynical about how genuine it is.
Every interview I've read has included lots of quotes from her on how wasted she gets, how "they" keep telling her to stop drinking, but dammit she's just gonna keep being a violent drunk. Do you think Amy was pissed that the first sentence in her Post profile is about her drinking habits?
I also am suspect of anyone who puts so much energy into their looks, and does it in such a cliche way, which she absolutely does. I have no problems with sporting a beehive, tattoos, piercings, and super-clingy clothes that show off that heroin chic, newly won bod. But don't try and say that it's original or unique. It's a schtick, and if her music is that good, I hope it works for her.
I guess I'm trying to understand whether you're providing the reason for why you're not listening to her, or pointing out to others why they shouldn't?
It's a message board for people to post opinions. We have just done as such.
