Visions Cinema: Closing permanently on Thursday.
« on: September 18, 2004, 09:55:00 am »
Folks,
sad, sad news.  according to a friend that works there, Visions is planning on closing their doors for good this coming Thursday.  Flat out, the place can't earn enough in a space worth so much.  The developers are eyeing the space for retail, so there's very little chance someone else will buy and reopen it.

Not sure we can do anything about it at this point.  This will be a huge loss to the DC indie film community.

I was there last month for a happy hour. I loved the special events, especially the midnight movie thing. I was a happy girl when they showed "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls."

Since I moved to MoCo last year, I haven't been as much given my close proximity to the AFI Silver, but I did like their space.

You're right. DC needs more educational facilities first.

Quite sad -- glad I  f-i-n-a-l-l-y got to DONNIE DARKO just last week!

But... for all the coolness of the bar, the hanging out scene, the midnight movies, the kick-the-keg, the unique programming...... it's still hard to get past the fact that:
the auditoriums suck.  bad angles, and too-small-screens-relative-to-what-we-get-nowadays.

  That really Sucks! The last time I was at Visions Cinema I was attending a  Monthly Plastic Meetup. I saw a film called Boondock Saints on the TV scene. I made a few trips to Visions. It's disappointing that we lost another venue for movies outside the mainstream. I also suspect the opening of the E street Theatre may have taken some their audiences away. It's pathetic because I was gonna use the venue to launch my dvd magazine that's still in works.
