Bronski Beat - Age Of Consent

the expanded version of this album includes the standard 12" remixes which were always great, Hundreds and Thousands was a great collection of their extended versions.

i'm also seeing some BBC radio sessions which will be interesting to hear, along with demos.

and wow i forgot how great Why? and It Ain't Necessarily So were on this album... beside Smalltown Boy

Why? And Smalltown Boy are top level

It was a shame for Bronski when Jimmy Sommerville left but who could blame him?

That indeed was amazing... was that really the first box set??? That must've come out in 96 or 97?

I remember having it in my CD changer in the trunk of my 1987 Honda Accord that was unfortunately ripped out of my trunk.

I bought a few LPs today that are pretty banged up including this one from 1961

As far as I can tell this  is the point where Cuban music from Cuba and Cuban style music in the US begin to split on the way to full fledged salsa… initially the new US variant - at first very similar to Cuban-is called charanga and is typified by a flute and string instrument backing

Johnny Pacheco is instrumental in the development of salsa… in fact he sets up Fania a few years later (think US Latin music equivalent to Blue Note) and even puts out first record on it…

All of this early America Latin music seems to have come out of the Bronx

Quad reissue of “In concert”

Bluesway was ABC’s blues label

What attracted me to this was the different cover photo but I probably should have left it behind

Still, I have a semi automatic pickup rule on Ray….

Look at My Soul: The Latin Shade of Texas Soul

a collection pulled together by Adrian Quesada in 2018, just before the Black Pumas took off...  looks like it was an Amazon exclusive when first released, that is getting a wider release including bandcamp... lots of great artists and songs here

Carnage by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis

Nick Cave doesn’t do bad albums (well maybe Nocturama)

So it just comes down to personal preference

I find Carnage the most accessible Cave album since Push the sky away.

My favorite album from 2021. I wish I could see it performed live.
