What do the italians know about punk rock anyway? though i'd have to agree with them.

I've always put all three on equal footing.  Tim may be a better whole, but between the Ledge and Alex Chilton, I think Pleased hits the higher highs.

hmm, i'm kind of the opposite ... i think each album has two or three songs that are equally all-time-great fantastic ("let it be": unsatisfied, i will dare; "tim": left of the dial, little mascara, bastards of young; "pleased to meet me": alex chilton, can't hardly wait, never mind)

but i never really cared for songs like "lay it down clown", "gary's got a boner", "tommy gets his tonsils out", etc ... "pleased to meet me" is just more consistent all the way through ... it's obvious they're reaching for mainstream success, and it sounds amazing

I actually like "Pleased to Meet Me" more than "Tim", but "Kiss Me On the Bus" is pretty sublime.

Crickets: Best of the Fading Captain Series 1999-2007

I have all of these tracks except for the six exclusives, but it's a great introduction to Robert Pollard's non-GBV stuff.  It's easy to forget how many great songs he's released until you heard them all lumped together.  Good stuff.

Ditto.

I just heard the album  for the first time a few hours ago and that track definitely stood out for me.

What are some other discs I should check out? [/QB]
Oh, man. I could go on forever but I'll try to be kind to the others and limit myself.

 Malory
 Fleeting Joys
 The Daysleepers
 Tearwave
 Tears Run Rings
 The Antiques (local)
 Screen Vinyl Image (local)
 Thrushes (Baltimore)
 Secret Shine
 Air Formation
 Resplandor
 The Emerald Down
 Alison's Halo
 Hinterland
 Monster Movie
 The Nova Saints

Btw, Spc-Eco is finally putting out something in January but, sadly for me, it's only on (white)  vinyl and on iTunes. My turntable isn't usuable and can't use iTunes. It's going to be put out on my friend's label so I'll have to go push him to eventually release it all on CD. I'm one of those who insist on a tangible product with art work  but I'd like to also be able to hear it at will.

 Okay. I'll stop now.

There is one early demo called "Tristesse Hivernale" and some mini-CD called "Le Secret" but have never seen or heard either. As far as I'm aware, there aren't any obtainable releases but I suspect that "Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde" is a rerelease since there are two different covers going around and each look very similiar. Don't know if it was ever remixed or anything.

Alcest morphed out of another band which was supposedly darker Metal but I've yet to hear any of it. I first heard him (it's one guy called Neige who added on a few others) about a year and a half to two years ago (actually, he found me) but it took me awhile to finally track down and buy the CD. He is rather quiet but I suspect it may have something to do with language differences. Or maybe he's just that kind of guy.

im in love with the setting suns. saw them last night and they just blew my mind away. which makes me wish i had seen swervedriver.

The Setting Suns is a collaboration between Sam Fogarino, drummer from Interpol and Adam Franklin, guitarist and singer from Swervedriver and Toshack Highway. The duo met over dinner in NYC last winter, while being introduced by long time, mutual friend, Jack Rabid (The Big Takeover). The Setting Suns have completed recording their debut five song EP at Electric Lady in NYC and it sounds rather wonderful! Release is scheduled for the fall. Further details will be posted as they develop...

For some reason, I always end up playing a lot of Klaus Nomi around the holidays. For some reason, a metaphor of "wearing a cockring under a tuxedo" comes to mind, but I don't think its apt.

Oh, man. What a tease! Thanks so much for the find but I can't get it listenable.

Anyone know of any free and safe programs that will convert rar files to MP3?

I googled something to the effect of ".rar mp3 converter" and the first thing that came up was an easily downloadable app that I've been using ever since.
