This book also explains the reason for the cheesy synths

David Bowie - Stage 2017 Edition. Vastly superior to the OG, in that the original setlist order is restored and now it makes sense. I could just never get with Alabama Song, no matter who was singing it. For no reason other than I just think that it's an annoying song.

+1...hate that song

although had no idea of the history
The "Alabama Song"—also known as "Moon of Alabama", "Moon over Alabama", and "Whisky Bar"—is an English version of a song written by Bertolt Brecht and translated from German by his close collaborator Elisabeth Hauptmann in 1925 and set to music by Kurt Weill for the 1927 play Little Mahagonny. It was reused for the 1930 opera Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny and has been notably covered by The Doors and David Bowie.

This is the Mudhoney record with the sample from The Wild Angels which Primal Scream used a few years later

Mudhoney LP came out in 88 and the Scream’s Loaded in 1990

It was DJ Andrew Weatherall who I believe just passed away that used the sample for Primal Scream...I doubt he knew who Mudhoney was in 1990

Mahler 6, 5, 4.
Gotta admit, Chicago slays Pittsburgh in the brass department.
No, not the band.

Baxter Dury - The Night Chancers

The apple didn’t fall from the tree on this one, Baxter not only sounds a bit like his dad, but he has similar musical sensibilities

Listened to Guided by Voices for the first time this morning. Great stuff.

Normally I feel good about discovering new acts but I’m so far behind the 8 ball here it’s embarrassing.

Mahler Symphonies:

#3 New York
#2 San Francisco
#1 Pittsburgh

The complete GBV catalog would be a daunting proposition. You have my full support.

Anything I should focus on or avoid?

Last year it was Nick Cave and while I enjoy binge listening, I have to kick myself for missing out for so long.

Fun fact...you know who turned Hutch on to GBV...
While outside having a smoke before a bob mould solo show in G-town(like 20 years ago) Hutch runs into Bob and asks him 'What are you listening to" and his answer was like "I can't wait to get home to hear the new GBV album"
