Tappa Zukie- In Dub

I was at a gathering on Saturday.. we were listening to some really horrible band-oh yeah- the Revivalists...I said something about how I'd been listening to a lot of dub... the person - not host but somebody who DJ'd through his phone_ played Bob Marley's Survival....

When 99% of people think of anything relating to Jamaican music they just think of Bob Marley which is pretty sad.. Anyways, I like Survival OK but its just about Bob Marley at his most crossover reggae light....

Cal Tjader's Latin Concert
on red vinyl like a lot of these old Fantasy records....

Tjader is one of my favorites... this was recorded in September 1958.. the band is an allstar Latin jazz unit with Tjader,  Guaraldi, Bobo and Santamaria!!! (plus McKibbon on bass).. but those four are all stars..

Fantasy was an interesting label for a while

anyways so September 1958 which I tend to view as the height of jazz.. at least the kind of jazz I like...

local music! been wanting to listen to these guys for a while..

reminds me a bit of captain beefheart/tom waits singing wise.. music is a bit new wavy

probably made a mistake with this one.. bought it even though it had a little bit of dried mold on it... that stuff just kills me.. if i had a record store i would never sell a record with mold.. but they may not have even noticed..
